Thieves' World d20 to MRQII Conversion

I am planning on converting Green Ronin's Thieves' World from d20 to MRQII. I was wondering if anyone out there got a start on this? Perhaps a d20 to MRQII conversion guideline sheet that I may have missed somewhere? Ideas?

Thanks.

If you can find it, Chaosium published the original Thieves World boxed set back in the 80s, designed for use with about half a dozen separate game systems (BRP, Traveller, AD&D, Fantasy Trip and so on). I think that some conversion rules were included, and that might prove useful. At the bare minimum the RQ (Chaosium RQ2) stats for the characters would be very useful and offer a relatively easy conversion exercise across to MRQ.

Original Chaosium boxed set from 1981 had stats for characters etc using
Advanced D&D
Adventures in Fantasy
Chivalry and Sorcery
Dragonquest
Dungeons and Dragons
The Fantasy Trip
Runequest
Traveller
Tunnels and Trolls

They also put out the Thieves' World Companion, which included RQIII stats.

Note that the Chaosium set only included characters from the first two "Ranke era" anthologies, while the Companion updated that to the first five.

Sanctuary even made it into Glorantha, where it became Refuge, perched at the tip of Heortland. Because this is extremely near Zistorwal, you could make it the base of operations for characters engaged in the Machine Wars, if you're so inclined. I am...

I agree with previous posts. If you can get hold of the Chaosium TW products, they're great :-)

Currently, I'm using chosen parts of Sanctuary as Fiesive, in my 2nd age Ralios campaign. The city's the base of operations for our protagonists. The TW box is one of the best gaming supplements I've ever bought! And the maps are gorgeous :-)

Does this sort of guideline sheet exist? Maybe Dan True’s conversion of Eberron has some broader advice or mechanical translations which could be useful?

I totally agree about the Box set. Actually this project started about five days ago after fishing my old copy of Chaosium's TW out of a old box. Unfortunately, not much is left of it after some hard use in the 80s and other abuse over the years. :)

I am out looking for a replacement, those maps are light-years better than what is found in the Green Ronin editions. GR does have the advantage of up to date setting information.

You can find it here: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=45877

And you can always send me a PM if you have some thoughts or questions on d20 conversions.

I would certainly find it helpful to understand some of the translation mechanics.

I try to use another method of conversion. Looking at the stats and description for an NPC, I try to describe him/her in terms of words. For example a fighter might be big and strong, tends to use an axe as preferred weapon. Then I just create an NPC matching the description with the system at hand...

Works for me, and I've used it extensively, since I often use materials from one game/setting for another game...

This is also the best way of doing it, and I do that most of the time too. It can never hurt to know the underlying math though, especially if running published content.
