The SST forum

Mongoose
Is it always so full of people moaning and whinging, even when as far as I can see, something very positive is actually happening with the game at last...

It is quiote depressing seeing how you guys have reacted to the news in S&P. Instead of seing something new and exciting all you can do pick apart the smallest of details and add to the panic by rushing about claiming doom and gloom.

I own the SST rules but never played the game as I was never fond of the models. Now this is looking like it might change if the models are good with SST:evo and I was hoping for some good discussion in here about the new rules but essentially all I got was a bunch of grognards complaining that the evo is not the old SSTT game.

Its a simple fact that to survive games need to evolve and be updated. If that means re-dressing then balance of units and re-writing rules then so be it.

And remember... the rules in S&P are just a working preview... don't go around panicing if you favourite weapon or rule isn't on them. MG have said your old models will not be made obsolete.

In the words of Bill Lumberg, "I'm gonna have to go ahead and sort of... disagree..."

I think MOST of the comments have been very good and helpful. I'm sure it really helps Matt out to know what aspects of the game are really going to be missed, so you hear, "WHAT THE HECK DID YOU DO TO MY EXOSUITS," but Matt hears, "We liked Exosuits the best and we liked them how they were, so could you please address them before any additional updates to other units."

When you hear, "AWWW man, that's such a nerf! This game is totally cheesed out! etc." Matt hears, "Maybe you should look at how balanced this unit is again."

Some things really aren't helpful, like the people who keep saying that their models are now useless because the rules aren't coming out in the first wave, but other than that, most of the comments are helpful.... they're just not said in the most polite way.

Well I have to agree with voracioustigger.

To be honest I'm more annoyed by the tons of "you all only complain what happened to this forum?" topics that keep popping up than by commentarys, as unpolite and angered they may sometimes be (and I include my own comments there)

If I was Matt I wouldn't listen to knee jerk reactions and conclusions of people that have only seen these very few rules in isolation and even then only had access to them for a few days.

I guess I just find the prospect of SST:evo far more exciting and far less personal than many of the players here.

Yeah I can't quite see how you can make sweeping statements about units when you can only see a few other unit stats to compare them too...

Plus the rules have also changed (perhaps not much, but still...) and so even if you've been playing lots of BF:Evo you surely can't be that knowledgeable of the rules yet...

I wouldn't say many, if any, people posting here aren't excited about SST:Evo. The mere fact that they take the time to post here should be proof of that.

you always find this here

people post think play and appolagise.

why they dont read play then post is beyond me, from what i can see it looks good, as for playing it so far NO but ive played alot of bf evo and im loving the prepaints, one ive played il say if they missed something or not, untill then il hold of from knee jerk reactions just cuz a 2 page spread didnt cover every modle and weapon in the game.

I think its because alot of the people who've been involved since the beginning with the game can be quite obsessive when they have put time money and soul into the effort, then when the ... break came, it kinda took people off guard. We're pretty posessive of SST, and we demand the best from the game, but I can understand your opinion. Its hard to hear or read time and time again... Space Mrns PWN!!!!

I was pretty hot, and I can say that I felt that I had a valed reason to be. HOWEVER, I went into lurker status, for a while and had to take a real look at what my hobbies and things have become. I now have even less time to deal with the trivialities, and in between work, school, and marathon painting, I really can't complain about figs, for a game that I really like, being already painted in a style that can just as easily be sprayed over and redone, if I so choose and I don't like the color. Another thing thats good is that In the great deal from before, I have a platoon of about 40 Lights that can be easily painted by using the prepaints as a templet.

In hindsight, putting together a brain bug is an absolute horror that I don't look forward to to rehashing, and it will be a real deal to pick up around three more plasma bugs, a platoon of grizzalies, and some of whatever I missed the first time around by the massed batch.

In case you don't know, there will probibly be ALOT of earlier players coming back into the fold, once the glitches, the product becomes available, and the other things that inevitably come up. I wouldn't even bat an eye if the old rabble rouser himself started rolling back in with a few more writeups.

I for one will be attempting to write out a few good stories, and put together a little playing, once things start coming back together again, and hopefull by the time I get back down to North Carolina, I may be making "The Hobbit" my second home.

Don't be too disconcerted by the grousings, This board can be one of the greatest places to find some of the wackiest stuff.
I would have never found the Spugs, the PigIron, learned about Tannenhuser, and all of the other contributions that come along from those in the know. Having a little discontent is good for the board to keep us from becoming too sheepish and selling out to the man. :P :P :P

Because EVERYBODY obviously knows that you can look at things in isolation and get perfect view of the game...

Actually my only complaint so far is that the cards they gave us are so low rez as to be almost unuseable. I am excited to try the units as they are now and understand that they all have to change in order to fit the new rule system.

I just feel that after all the hundreds of figs that I have bought and painted I deserve to use them with some high rezolution cards! Especially after waiting so long not being able to use all those figs.

Oh well. In the long run I just received my first BF:EVO and if SST comes out that well it will be worth the wait.

Oh no problem with that, I can fully appreciate a call for higher res cards...

My monitor isn't exactly low res, and whilst I am short-sighted my eyes aren't giving out yet, and I have difficulty reading them...

And that's it, we now have more people complaining about people who are complaining than we had people complaining in the first place.

Superb, now me, I just ignore anything I'm not interested in, that way it vanishes down the threads and pretty swiftly it's not on the first page anymore and noone cares.

The only reason the criticism threads get any traffic is from people foamig at the mouth and arguing. If noone says anything it's gone within an hour or so of posting.
In fact, rather than complain, you can easily find five or six positive threads to post in and bury it. If two people come on line and post in a handful of positive threads, then it's gone. There's a lot more of us with something constructive to say than the knee-jerk critics. But by arguing back (and telling them that their opinion is wrong, which it can't be as it's an opinion) all we do is make the whinge threads look bigger than the rest.

You can't stop people from having opinions, it's their right. The fact they are allowed to is one of the best things about MGP. What you can do is not repeatedly have this thread running (it's about four times in the last two weeks). Ignore the repetitive complaining threads and post in the others, that's the only way to make them go away. And it works really well. Loads of threads discussing rules and models etc... post in them, let the whingers have their opinions, just don't keep their threads at the top by being sucked in.

People are entitled to opinions, sure, but Mongoose have been in business for ten years now and know what they are doing to create success.
A lot of the people here, who do have valid points, negative positive and indifferent, are in the majority of people who game as a hobby. Mongoose game for a living.
