What's the potential legal repercussions for someone who's on holiday or on business on a world he's never been to before and whose not racist pretending to be racist to avoid trouble with a large group of people that are racist if the planets police find out, investigate and he gets arrested?

How do you pretend to be a racist?

If you act like a racist you are a racist unless you have governmental/police authority to be undercover as a racist.

'I was only pretending to be a racist' while committing racist acts, saying racist things etc is no legal defence, it makes you a racist - guilty as charged.

Saying you're a racist and acting in some racist manner are two different things. You still need to break laws to be criminal. Pretending to be Santa Claus does not make you Santa Claus. A high law level could make the point moot in both cases.

What if your character visits a planet where the people there hate all humans and your character is human, does pretending to be racist help?

I think Star Trek represents a mixed racial heritage incorrectly, most people who are half black and half white do not look like that!

Here I was thinking what if the person in question is a member of a discriminated race but unlike many of their brethren they've walked away from their violent racist stereotypes that's all people remember.

It's quite likely they've spent years rebuilding their lives posing as a member of another nationality even preferring them to their own, but some slip causes others more familiar with their native people has brought on this prejudice even though they've done nothing to deserve it.

Does that sound like what they've described above?
