The Chinese PLA ARMY TYPE 99 Main Battle Tank
The Type 99 (also known as ZTZ-99) is the PLA’s third generation indigenous main battle tank (MBT). The tank was developed from the Type 98 prototype. The main contractors are Beijing-based China North Vehicle Research Institute (NEVORI, also known as 201 Institute) and Inner-Mongolia First Machinery Group Co., Ltd (FIRMACO) of Baotou, Inner Mongolia. The tank entered small batch production in 2000. Small numbers of the Type 99 are deployed by Beijing and Shenyang Military Region.
