I'm interested in developing a point-based character generation system for RQ (I know it's kind of that way already). Coming up with a point-buy system for Characteristics should be pretty easy. What I'd like to do is dispense with Cultural Backgrounds and Professions and let my players use the guidelines the rules-developers used when coming up with these backgrounds/professions, and basically have the freedom to do whatever. Something like GURPS-- offer templates as suggestions.
Can someone tell me exactly how the Backgrounds and Professions are constructed? They seem to be of even point-value.
