The Fair Use Policy

You might as well do it. Traveller could do with some silliness. That and we need some new holy flame war topics.

Actually, some of the old Challenge April fools stuff could be fun. I remember the one where they discovered Strephon had been in the shower for seven years.

A little too vague for me still. So I'll wait.

The irony of waiting, is that once the proper thing is actually published I'll most likely have to ask for help here in this thread anyway to decipher what it means. ;)

Good Morning, Matt:

I have a question:

As Stellar Reaches is a non-commercial endeavor, can it continue to be set in the Empty Quarter, or should it be moved to the Foreven sector?

Your initial post on the subject seems to indicate that staying in the EQ is okay, but posts since then seem to suggest that it would have to move its setting to the Foreven sector. I'm just looking for clarification.

With Regards,
Flynn

Two Words:

SPACE
HAMSTERS

In the OTU. 4ever in the 4even.
The mind boggles.

Annoy me enough and I swear to god I'll write that up, I will. Or amuse me enough...or boggle me enough..... whichever. .....Sentient puddles and all......

4even RuLZ OK !

And with the Traveller: Babylon 5 Sourcebook coming out you could have:

Space Hampsters vs Space Ducks

In the all out war to control Charted Space. The Space Hampsters emerge from a Pocket Universe where they had been imprisoned by Grandfather (Of course they emerge within the Foreven Sector) As soon as they emerge, a Hyperspace alarm is set off and another Pocket Universe opens and the Space Ducks emerge to fight the nefarious Space Hampsters. Woe be it to any mere mortal that gets in the way of these two mighty races as they battle across the sector. Planets will be destroyed; suns will go Supernova, children will wake in the night crying. TOTAL CHAOS!

Hmmm....

Babylon 5 and Space Ducks coupled with Mongoose Runequest and Ducks coupled with Mongoose Traveller could very well mean...

DUCK DODGERS IN THE TWENTY-FOURTH AND A HALF CENTURY!!

4even 4ever!

I wonder how well that license would do...

I don't know, but I can easily see it bought by Looney Tunes collectors, bought as an introductory "silly" role-playing game for kids by parents who enjoy the RPG hobby and want a "family-friendly" game, or bought by schools who would like a version of the game that helps facilitate teaching science & technology subjects to their younger students in a palatable form.

Of course, that's just me brainstorming. I think the license requirements of Warner Brothers for Marvin Martian, Porky Pig, and Daffy Duck alone would be pretty monstrous.

DEATH TO ALL FUZZY CREATURESSS!!!!
VARGR EAT THEM BREAKFAST!!!!
YARRRRR!!!!
Vargr Imperium Rebellion strikes again!!!

Hi Guys, any further word on the Fair Use Policy and it's clarity. Foreven has been a GM's preserve since the day's of MegaTraveller (at least) in which it had very clearly been stated that no official materials would be produced for it, hence I can see the logic in the use of Foreven Sector. However during the days of TNE and Dave Nilsen, the same was said of Zarushagur Sector (I think that's how it is spelt). Needless to say the atmosphere of each sector varies wildly so perhaps the answer is to have several (free for all sectors) in different geographical parts of the chartered space. This might satisfy everyone. 4 Sectors in which no further OTU materials would be produced by official publishers might do the trick.

Personally I prefer the idea of 'use any sector and link it to any part of the OTU for non commercial use', with 'Definitely no commercial publishing of any kind without prior consent and approval of Mongoose Publishing'. The boundaries seem cut and dry then, as even not for profit publishing of paper products is still commercial publishing. If people want to do this then they should pay a fee to Mongoose and satisfy certain quality requirements or follow the Gurps Traveller model.

Oh Yes my 4 sectors as GM's preserves would be:

1 Foreven (near spinward marches space - Traditional Traveller Campaigns)
2 The Empty Quarter (Trailing Campaigns)
3 Alpha Crucis (Solomani/Hiver's & even some K'kree)
4 Zarushagar (Imperial Core/Aslan Campaigns)

That's not bad a mere 4 sectors out of the 49 sectors on my map of the First Imperium.

I am aware of this, owning both 1248 books, hence the reason why I said

"in which no further OTU materials would be produced by official publishers might do the trick"

At some time someone will have published some info about almost every sector in official publications, this doesn't mean that it cant be declassified as cannon or those cannon sources cant be used in your own free for all. Personally I'm not that impressed with 1248 anyway, but that's another topic for another board not this one, so no flames please, as I do want an answer to my questions regarding the fair use policy.
