The Centauri Fleet Grows...

Court Jester

Mongoose
Whilst waiting for the Heroes re-run on TV tonight I painted up a Primus and a Sulust to add to my fleet. The Primus model was terribly cast with some mis-cast areas in teh centre of the ship and a halo of flash that surrounded the entire ship... And thats not even starting on the quality of my second Primus...

However the Sulust was well cast and easy to assemble...

Fantastic job! I look forward to painting my Centauri as well - I'll be using your paint scheme. What paints and inks did you use? I would like to pick them up as well.

They look immaculate! Even the Primus.

What color scheme is that? Where did you get those paints?

Beautiful work!

Thanks guys,

I wanted a colour schem that looked traditional as well as based on the Centauri colour schemes in The Lost Tales. So dirty and more metalic than the pink and yellow Mongoose went with...

I used Deep Mauve 58 A&C from the Foundry Range of paints. As well as GW metalics.

  • Firstly I ppainted the whole ship Boltgun Metal
  • Then I gave it a black wash (just watered down black paint)
  • Then I blocked in the purple base colour with Deep Mauve 58A
  • Next I painted all the golden aread with Tin Bitz
  • I then highlighted the Purple with Deep Mauve 58C
  • I added a little amount of ivory (Bleached Bone) to the Deep Mauve C and did some final highlights on the purple areas.
  • The Gold was built up by with the following colours - Brazen Brass, Shining Gold and then Burnished Gold.
  • Finally to makesure it all looked dark and grubby I painted several washes into the reccesses of the models.
  • The first was a watered down mix of Tin Bitz and Black. This was painted into all the cracks and reccesses of all 3 colour (gold silver and purple). The heavily watered down paint allows a good measure of blending with this style of shading.
  • The final wash was just watered down black.

Are those FA scale Vorchans there?

Indeed they are... I am using FA scale Corvans, Maximus and Vorchans for my fleet.

thanks for the guide....

i can see what you mean....the primus is really in an bad condition.
i have looked at your pics a little bit closer...and can see the miscasts on the bridge section and the rear details...it lacks a lot of details. i think the mold is nearly dead or the pewter was not hot enough. its time to replace this mould, really.

Looks to me like it's actually seen combat...

Yup, its that central section of the ship where the bridge and other little comms arrays are... it was rather... buggered.

Also there are a couple of splits in the metail around the top engine and hull plates... Either way its good enough to game with... 8)

but it is an shame....for this price such an quality. naja...

Let me just say that you've given me the will to start over the painting of the few centauri ships i already painted a few months ago :)

Your ships are amazing and i think i'll buy some FA scale vorchans aswell, the mongoose ones are just tooooooooooo big. (On the other hand i wish there were a bigger scale miniature for the sharlin)

Hi

Are photos available anywhere of Court Jester's Centauri? The links in the original ;post are dead and the website listed in his profile is no longer running.

Once I finish my Minbari I plan on painting my Centauri and am looking for inspiration. I think I want something a touch darker than the vivid purple and gold that Mongoose used. I thought of using more black and a darker purple but still unsure about gold.

I don't want to do NMM but I do want something that is less shiny than gold or less shiny than bright yellow that have seen used. Maybe use a bit more tin bitz/brass to get a darker, less shiny gold.

Thanks for any help or inspiration you can offer.

Cheers

James

Court Jester did a tutorial on painting an Octurion in an ezine, forget the name however his painting gold teach in is particularly excellent. I have a copy on my computer somewhere but just about to leave for the weekend, if noone comes back sooner i will dig it out for Monday
