The Baileoisin Chronicles

There have been some developments that will allow me to (Finally) get some more work done on this book.

I also have over two weeks off at Christmas and this should give me enough time (events willing) to seriously bash this into shape.

So there you go. Some news. It will not reappear on the website until I have finished editing and laid it out (perhaps when I am just waiting for a few pieces of art). Some of the book has already been fully edited and laid out, just not as much as I had hoped by now (although I initially hoped to be working on the supplement following the Chronicles by now, such is life).

Hopefully I will get some time this weekend to do some work on it as well.

I just have been stupidly busy this year due to a variety of events but things look like they aqre clearing up nicely and I can see a light at the end of the tunnel (or insert your favourite cliche here).

I will now endeavour to write up progress reports as I go, to keep you guys in the loop.

The only thing that has stopped MRQ Slaine from growing is the lack of official support for this line. If good official support is provided, then I believe that many of the old D20 Slaine players will return to the fold.

Now I have some time to work on this I expect progress will begin to be made in a serious way.

I think the BoC will certainly help with the game. I am also looking at having some rule amendments to start the book, so please add any suggestions you would like to be made in the new thread I am starting today.

Thanks a lot. 8)
So our hope won't be in vain.

BTW how long do you intend it to be?

Hard to say, it has been a little (cough, cough) while since I last looked at the work John has done on this. I expect to do a chapter this weekend, perhaps two, from an editing standpoint.

(BoC was originally going to be a Slaine D20 product, so there is a fair bit of editing to do with some chapters).

I will also need to order a couple of maps once I have a fair bit of work done, which will slow things down, and get some more art from Rebellion. All these take time (and for the maps, my own money).

Mind you if I get going on this I could zip through a lot pretty quickly.

I will try to post updates (an example might be: Woo-hoo, finished editing one of the scenarios today!), indicating what I have done and even a few hints as to what that particular section includes.

It also helps that I now have a decent, working PC at home, which will make it more pleasurable to work on this.

So I am feeling a little positive. After XMas, assuming all goes to plan, I will have more news and a far better idea as to where this stands.

I forgot to add - for a change in pace I will look at writing a non-Baileoisin adventure for Signs and Portants in the very near future as well...

I also hope this adventure will be a success, both for you and for Mongoose, because if I learnt about the Rebellion 2000AD integrating Mongoose in Matt's State of the Mongoose (forum: General Discussion), there is clearly nothing on Slaine.
So if if turns out to be a good seller, it could give Slaine a second breath.

I have some ideas for Slaine, and can probably rope in some help from others on other projects as well.

The main advantage with Slaine is that it does not require me to fork out my own cash for art. Which is a GOOD THING.

And the art is pretty good anyway.
Do you really do this for naught or do you receive something based on the sales?

As I am on it, would it be possible somehow to have all the Slaine articles from old S&P issues for free (as downloadable goodies) because these issues are now hard to find.

It's really nice to get an update from you Mongoose Acolyte. :)
I would suggest that a number of the monsters from our previous thread would be an idea to add into the BoC. Its a pain in the rear end having to carry Granbretan for Dire wolves and Elric for Mastodons and sabre tooths.
Clarifying the naming of weapons might be an idea (ideally limiting each character to a single one-these are, after all supposed to be weapons of choice).
Also, the Ghost fence spell from Hawkmoon Scientific Sorcery has Slaine Earthpower spell written all over it and could possibly be translated.
Finally, for the moment anyway, it would be good to re-introduce the rules for straightening Iron weapons.
Really lookin forward to seeing this in print, and the mention of a companion really has me salivating. 8)

Well the advantage of being tied in to Rebellion is that the license will never run out, and as long as I remain at Mongoose I can continue to work on Slaine whenever I feel the urge.

What I would like to do (I guess over the next decade (!)) could include:

Sourcebooks for Fomorians, the beserkers and the drunelords

Campaigns that are companions to these sourcebooks

A book on cults/religions with lots of new magic, perhaps with details on the otherworld(s) - although this might be worth an entire book on its own.

A book of items: magic items, critters. I'll be raiding my mythologiacal encyclopaedias for these.

A companion book full of random stuff.

BUT considering how long it has taken me to FAIL to get BoC (so far!) this is all rather speculative.

Well, I will have more time free to get going on these. But we will see (I know one very good writer (and who is incredibly easy to edit) who wants to do something on Slaine)). (I may also have a little help from others, which will be very important in getting things done).

Now for a little update on the weekend's work:

Started looking through the BoC stuff I already have as well as my notes and I have rediscovered a Slaine adventure not part of the original campaign that I ran myself (and which I designed to slot into the campaign). This one was run through by my regular group / playtest guys who liked it a lot, so I began writing it up for inclusion.

This one involves our old friends from Asgard, a haunted wood, a curse, heroic rescues, tragedy, omens and then a victorious homecoming. Not bad for something that was just a bunch of one-liners on a single sheet of A4 paper when I first ran it...

I also went through the large rumours table that will make up a short section of the book (in other words - lots of possible adventure hooks for GMs to use). These are pretty good and should ensure that campaigns will greatly vary from one group to the next...

Good to hear MA! I am sure the book will make its way out when the time comes. But even if the book never came out there is so much info in the main book to keep folks going for a long time. The only thing really stopping folks from playing is your own imagination. Sure I want new Slaine content as much as anyone but for what is all jam packed into the main book, I really think it will keep most GM's busy.

The shame is I'm finding it hard to pick ideas from my own brain ball, working 70 hours a week at the minute so I could do with adventures in front of me that I don't need to put as much prep work in to.

I am assuming that the situation with the Conan License has been hogging most, if not all, of the attention lately. There's been no word from MA since telling us about his intention to do more on this project during August. :(
