Testing Burgers Beam system

Got to say just from the sounds of things that this new beam rule could be very nice, at least it would help in some degree balance larger ships off a bit better against smaller ones, at least in beam fleets as you can't count on your small ships working up a ton of beams (seen 3 ad beam turn to 38 hits)....

Granted that doesn't help much against fleets without it...

Still I do rather like the massive highs and lows of beams as they are now, while the game might be a bit more reliant on strategy at that point then luck, i just got to love the random factor of the beam game play.

I quite like the current beam rules, maybe the problem is the so many small ships having beams. One way to get round this is give smaller ships mini beams with slight bump in AD & leave the big ships with beams that slice ships in half since beam is be all & end all of weapons.

Burger's system is exactly what an optional tourney rule should be. I recommend that the correct location to publish it as such might be Signs & Portents.

Mhm, I'm just wondering that you already hit a ship on the 3+.
Otherwise the rule looks well.

??

Beams currently always hit on a 4+, so this rule makes it slightly more likely that a beam will get at least a hit or two, but runaway beam hits would be a thing of the past.

Ok, perhaps a missunderstandiing here.

I understood that you roll a die for every AD the Beam weapons has, so for example 6 on an Omega with the following results:

1-2 miss, 3-5 1 hit, 6 - 3 hits

A couple of us tried out the Burger Beam System last night and the general felling was as mentioned above. The numbers came out almost the same 79 2E to 82 BBS. The only realy issue we had was the overall feel. YOu can approach a beam heavy fleet a little differently since you have a general idea of how many hits you will get and hte thought of a runaway hit is gone, excpet rolling a bunch of 6's. One thing that we did discuss was this would make Precise Beams extremely powerful.

Overall we like it, but we like the current 2E beams rules just a little better.
