Terrain for SST Miniatures

Hi,
As you may have noticed, this is my very first post, so I apologise if this is the wrong forum to post my enquiry in. But I was just wondering what terrain you guys use in the game, and where you get it from?

I have been looking around the website for some terrain suitable for a Bug army, and so far I haven't been able to find anything. So I was wondering - where do you guys get your terrain from, and if you don't buy it, what do you make it from?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, there. Just download the Sign&Portents magazine (26, 27. 28 e.g) on the mainpage. Nearly in every issue there are articles how to create Bug terrain or a whole table. Hope this helps

Thanks very much for your help :D

Sorry - I've got one more question. I was about to order some Guard Bugs, and I noticed it said 'three complete'. Does this mean ready modelled? I wouldn't ask, except when I looked at some other models I didn't see this message.

see if i can help

big blocks of terain work well, with current rules, evo will basicly allow small terrain peices to operate better from my understanding.

ok here are some pics from last years tourny of the terrian we played on at mongoose HQ

How do you make them look good when they're painted gritty? Mine always end up ugly but not the good kind of ugly . . . if there is a good kind.

Darker/subdued colers, blacklining. black or brown washes, battle damage. Keep your work clean, sharp edges, well done bases and bright unit badges.

Welcome to the forums, Evil's Worst Fear. I'll bet Mr Evil just loves your forum name, heh  . Mr Evil and Matt Rendar already did a good job giving you something to look at. As Wolfslord already contributed the pointer to the help you might get from reading Mongoose Publishing's online mag Signs & Portents (wargamer edition), I have been contributing for about a year now on articles that focus on tabletop terrain and artifacts such as custom bug holes, spires, rocks, buildings and other structures that can be used for mostly the Starship Troopers miniatures game. Mongoose Publishing has many games, but the stuff I make has been mostly aimed at that game property. Many of the same concepts can be used on games such as Gangs of Mega-City One (Judge Dredd) or other tabletop games. After this next issue ( #38 ) if you are looking to get ideas for tabletop buildings and structures you will need to be looking at several issues in a row (or even more) for I am about to start "spewing" forth ideas for alien colony structures and quite a few different ideas for urban structures for Starship Troopers (referred to as SST here alot although the acronym should have been "ST", heh  ) and an upcoming game called Battlefield Evolution. Many of the structures will in fact be usable for crossing over to the new game system that will be focusing on near-future combat. If you need any help in finding and downloading the free magazine editions just holler. I won't post instructions unless you need them. Here are a few random photos to add to what others have already shown you here. Again, welcome to the forum and welcome to the future! (both near and far) .

The pic below is a nuke prop that was inspired from another new forum member named MTM. Look for his topic called "Nuke Template Big Bada Boom" or something close to that and enjoy his creativity. I already "turned him in" to Mongoose to do a writeup for the mag. It should be a good 'un  .

Below you'll see something I made last week but hasn't made an appearance yet. It is an outpost/watchtower set up to watch over a frontier colony maybe. That, or maybe it's just inside of a prison for feral humans recaptured from the Skinnies  .

Here is one of the first props I made last year. It's inspired from the 1st movie and is of course Whiskey Outpost. This is one of several W.O's that forum contributors have posted here.

Not to worry. Many of these "have instructions" if you are curious.

Bu, I've said it before I think, and I'll say it again: awsome work!

I really liked that jungle board, how did you do it?

Oh, and welcome to the forums Evil's Worst Fear, and I can but agree with BuShips, Mr Evil just gotta love that name, don't you Mr?

Kristovich, the construction method should be in S&P wargamer #36 iirc. More pics of it will be out in #38, but with a twist (I'm not teeeelllling  ).

were did you get those cool know your foe posters!!

I had them made up from a sign making service on vinyl, then attached to 20" x 30" foam-core baord. I used them at the Seattle demo I ran last year at the Dragonflight con, mounted on easles. They worked well to get attention from across the room, and when they got closer to the table I set the hook and reeled them in, heh. I made sure it was OK with MGP as doing something like this can border on copyright infringement. Just make sure that you make them up for yourself only to show at demos and Mongoose will love you for it, I'm sure. Selling them on e-Bay for example would get into dangerous waters I'd say. See the difference?

Here are some pics of the Dragonflight demo I did in 2005. The first pic is of an actual game, without the clutter that I placed on the table later for a photoshoot and for promoting the game there. You can see how I used the easles and posters as a gateway sign to pull in curious folks. I make use of everything I have and mix it up when using terrain, too. For the new members of the forum take note of the cardstock fortifications that are included in the main game box (one is included per game box). By adding "fiddly bits" you can enhance their usage. I made up a corridor to link several of the cardstock pieces as well as steps and made good use of Russian Tehnolog Hexagon and Platformer kit pieces for a watchtower. The proxy dropship is a 25mm Old Crow lander with a custom extra-large crew pod. I scratch-made it but one can be fashioned from Tehnolog pieces as Mr Evil did one I believe.
