T-95 - I want that one !

Think this is the best looking of all the speculative versions of the T-95 I've seen. I'm going to have a crack at scratchbuilding a few. Wouldn't mind seeing a resin model of one (hint, hint Shaun?, Gordon? )

Just as interesting is the BMPT or teminator, designed to engage lots of lightly armoured or infantry targets. Both the BMPT and the T-95 are being sold to other countries (the Saudis are reportedly getting T-95s) and the BMPT is looking like a favourite for countries fighting insurgencies or other non-state actors.

The T-95 is an interesting design, and given the massive love Russians have for ATGMs, I can't imagine them sticking less than 4 on this. That sort of standoff firepower combined with a 135 or 152mm gun gives a tank developmentally in the same era as the Leopard 2A6, the Challenger II or the M1A3. Any sort of land conflict between the USA or major European powers with first line equipment is incredibly unlikely, but the prospect of Middle Eastern countries with lots of oil that we'd like to liberate from their terrible governments is a possibility, and the Russians need hard currency, and want to build their influence in the region while reducing ours. Add unresolved border issues with the Ukraine and Georgia, and we might see this stuff in use in the next five years. It will certainly be interesting to see what the Chinese and Americans deploy in that time period.

I've got a BMP-T model for my Russian army. Lethal against infantry (even if the MC version is undergunned, should have twin 30mms and 2x 30mm grenade launchers) and those AT missiles make it more than capable of seeing off the odd tank.

The T-95 will likely have the ability to fire ATGMs from the main gun (like most current Russian MBTs) as per the MC stats. You can see from the picture that it has the ARENA anti-missile "dustbin" and SHTORA IR jammers. Couple of major drawbacks in the design, 'though. The crew can't get to the autoloader from inside the tank and it supposedly relies on cameras for situational awareness (no commander in the turret). Did read on one site that they were looking at using datalinked UAVs too.

The Black Eagle was also referred to as the "T-95" in some earlier reports, I think that's the one that the Saudis might be after since it's only intended for export.

I thought the company producing the Black Eagle went out of business? The Black Eagle is also a complete departure for Russian tanks, given how much it looks like a conventional modern Western tank rather than an evolution of the shaped turrets the Russians have gone with for the last 60 odd years.

The big question is will people do models of them? I'd love to see them in all 4 of the big scales, 28mm, 1/72, 10mm and 6mm. For 20mm it is the sort of thing Trumpeter woud do, but we'll see for the other scales. I imagine people will wait for actual photos of it to turn up sometime this year before sculpting kits though.

I built this model last year based on composites of artist conceptions and photos of prototypes...

The left vehicle is a T-80UD by Mars, and the left is the T-95, which I used as a hull a Revell T-72, and scratch built the rest.

A frontal view to give you a comparison. Notice how short and low the T-95 is compared to the T-80UD.

Here is another picture, the first picture I took of my beautiful T-95 Experimental.

Nice job, I'm going to use Revell T-80 hulls as a base for mine (quite close to the image I posted, much lower than your MARS kit). That version you did is probably more like how the final version will look, but I prefer the look of this. I'd be surprised if any version of the T-95 actually gets beyond the prototype stage, they seem to have a habit of cancelling the more innovative hardware in favour of the more conventional types (e.g. the Su-47 in favour of the "Flatpack", the Black Eagle etc).

I like the picture you supplied. It looks like a cross between the Black Eagle project and the T-95 prototypes I have seen. The horse shoe armor on the front are a form of composite armor and ERA. The shields can be removed. The Black Eagle project had one extra set of road wheels and a lengthened hull to allow for the extra set of road wheels, something I would like to kit bash myself in the future. The beautiful thing about building a unit that is in the prototype stage is that you can be very liberal in your interpretation. I would eventually like to build the add on armor, the horse shoe armor, as a add on to physically add on and have the ability to remove when I wished. I would be interested in further exchanging ideas and pictures of Russian armor development of the 21st century.

Here's my rough version. It still needs a bit of work around the turret edges, but it looks reasonable enough trundling across the table.

 Nice! I like it a lot. What is the tank based on? The T-90 kit?
And how did you made the turret? A plastic spoon?

The hull and most of the turret furniture came from the Revell T-80B kit. The turret was made from a mobile phone cover and foamboard, built up with Milliput and sanded. The FLIR and ARENA parts were made from screws and washers with shaped Milliput tops. The rest is just bits from my spares box.

I thought of using a plastic spoon too, Agis. The ones I had kicking about were too brittle to cut, might try again for my seconds tank.
