Artemis Frigates are wonderful wonderful ships. A nice little patrol ship with interceptors, respectable forward firepower for their size, decent range with a couple of crittastic missiles and even a fighter flight (which you can swap out for T-Bolts in third age or Crusade for some extra punch). They even get an interceptor so they wont get swatted down by the odd one or 2 AD thrown their way while focussing on your bigger ships.
Whats not to like?
Some other nice initiative sinks to let you line up those Omegas:
Assault Hyperions - No boresight, lots of troops which can be handy at times and tough little buggers for skirmish too.
Avenger Carriers (in 3rd Age only) - No really weaponry to speak of (very short ranged for the most part) but can sit back and initiative sink while giving you a nice command bonus and providing fleet carrier support and yet more fighters
Explorers - same as above but swaps fleet carrier for scout
Apollos (crusdae only) - Bit high level for me to think of it as 'support' but its a great initiative sink since it has such fantastic range and arcs that it doesnt really matter if you move it first youll more than likley get your shot no matter where the enemy moves.
Olympus (3rd Age only) - Gun tastic. One of the most versatile little ships in the game.
Chronos - Hard as nails and with a lovely turreted railgun that can park in the middle of the enemy and DARE THEM to come within 12" of it
