Supersonic jets

Greetings,
A quick question regarding the supersonic trait in Vehicle Handbook: does the jet retain its original cruising/optimum speed or is it modified too?

A TL 9 jet has speed very fast (fast). Does a supersonic TL 9 jet get supersonic (subsonic) or supersonic (fast)? Or is it simply designer's choice? :)

Using today's technol as a benchmark i would say it's designers choice. Super cruise jets like the F22 can go supersonic without additional fuel burn just by moving up to around 40k feet. But those engines are specifically designed for that.

You could have chosen different spec engines for a reason that the rules don't cover. So I would leAve it up to the designer. It would be better to explain why the choice wad made in the description and perhaps use yur designers perogative and adjust something to justify the change.

If you were using MT or Striker rules there would be a formula in there somewhere, but most don't want that level of design detail.

Ultimately, your choice. I think I am right in saying that all the Mongoose ones get the faster cruise speed, but we have been concentrating on higher TL aircraft where we presumed supercruise would be more of a thing. However, if you have reasons not to do that, by all means go with it - the VHB is absolutely intended to be tweaked in that fashion. Remember the Referee Fiat on page 6...

Thanks :)

Yeah, I figured it'd be up to me as designer, and honestly I'm not sure it'd ever become an issue, was mostly curious. The Fiat rule on p.6 is very good to lean on, and even if that's always true in RPGs (referee decides, the rules are there to aid) it's always good to have it written down in the book as well.

I enjoy the simple design system, sometimes I get caught in "hmm, is this how it's supposed to be, or like this...?" but I realize that (most of the time) all that's needed is to dare to make a decision and then just roll with it :)
