State of the Mongoose Discussion and Questions

Matt - On the RPG front you and your team have some very interesting products in the pipeline, looks like I will have to defintely bite the bullet and get into Traveller. "Codename Veil" with its potential "X Files" feel & Reaver products are particularly interesting to me, as well many of the other new Traveller concepts- exciting stuff. (Not to mention the leather bound RQII- been resisting RQ for many years now may be time to take the plunge, --- Leather Bound - amazing idea)

However, it probably comes as no surprise to anyone that my main focus is on pushing things around on tables.

Understand that you are not ready yet ot reveal "da plan" but can you tell us, will we be seeing new Mongoose minis on sale in 2010........ And pushing a bit further, mid 2010?, late 2010?.

Bottom end of 2010.

I will be definiately interested in Living Traveller as I haven't had much chance to play it yet (just one game at UK Games Expo this year).

I will pass on Living Glorantha as I assume it will use MRQ2 - I have only played one game of MRQ1 a few years ago and am now just writing my first ever scenario to run using that system - and another bloody edition comes out! :(

Congratulations to Mongoose on its ongoing survival.

Am a heavy Traveller referee so looking forward to seeing new material. Am not looking forward to new settings - with the exception of Codename Veil, an STL (Slower Than Light) setting.

Admittedly I'll always be buying the core Traveller books. Merchant Prince / Robots promise to yield less bang per buck than normal. However "Power Armour" rules stretch my loyalty too far - my campaigns have only seen people wearing cloth armour, flak jackets. Dilettante looks interesting, especially as I used to work for one:).

Am _definitely_ eagerly waiting for the Campaign Guide.

The books listed under "The Third Imperium" promise to be more interesting. As do those listed under "The Mega-City One archives".

Deus Vult - sounds very interesting. Sounds like lots of material to apply to other game systems as a resource.

I'm definitely interested in Living Traveller and seeing how Mongoose implements it. I just hope it doesn't tax resources too greatly such that it slows production elsewhere.

I'd really like to see some Traveller equivalents of the Lone Wolf series.

"We have passed several card game and board game projects to our friends at Cubicle 7, allowing us to concentrate first on our core business of roleplaying games, and also expansion into other areas of game manufacturing and publishing." - Sounds like a wise decision.

Sounds like you've got things well in hand, Matt. I'm very happy to hear of the progress Traveller is making and I look forward to the line busting my wallet next year. However, as both a consumer and a licensee, I have a couple of questions:

1) Why a separate book on powered armor? Why not include that in a Mongoose edition of Fire, Fusion & Steel?

2) I'm intrigued by the Living Traveller concept, but as a licensee, I'd like to know: Will the Foreven and Traveller licenses be expanded for licensees to do their own "Living" campaigns?

There is no news regarding Battlefield Evolution, is that waiting for the miniatures segment to get lined out? Any new print products for the line? Is the close quarters/skirmish/SpecOps version cancelled or just pushed way back?

We won't be doing a new FF&S - we really don't want that level of detail/complexity in Traveller. Truth be told, and speaking only from a personal level, I would have been happy with not having a construction system for vehicles, leaving it just at ships.

However, I have seen players get more involved in their high-tech armour than they have their weapons, adding every option we have published thus far. There was clearly some scope here for a greater level of customisation.

In addition, it also allows us to expand the scope of Combat Armour/Battledress beyond the typical outfits in the Third Imperium to other staples of science fiction. The great hulking suits in Starship Troopers, for example, the Holocaust Suits in Judge Dredd, the neural interfaced power armour of Space Marines, and so on. It is another way of expanding Traveller outward to other settings where elite and high tech forces are defined as much by their defences as their weaponry.

Plus, you can have your character defined, in part, by their armour.

Think Boba Fett.

That was the other inevitable question :)

We'll be running our two camapigns for a while first. After all the kinks have been sorted, we may look at packaging the system up and allowing 'semi-official' campaigns to be run by other parties.

It is indeed part of the miniatures wave - there will be no more BF Evo books unless they also have miniatures support (which may make Agis jump for joy, I imagine!).

However, the BF Evo system/mechanics feature very heavily in our miniatures plans.

If Train A leaves London traveling 100KPH and Train B leaves Edinburgh traveling 150KPH and the distance between the two cites is 400 miles...
how long will it take to find out about the new miniatures licenses? You're killing me with the suspense.

On the miniatures games, can you at least ID the genre's intended and/or the order of focus?
Modern Warfare
WWII
Space Combat
Sci-Fi Skirmish/Ground Troops

Is SST gone for good? I'm assuming so, but a coworker who plays, but doesn't post on the forums wanted to know.

Yes.

any chance of Armegeddon 2099 novels..........

is that licence dead?

looking froward to sveral of the lines - the Cthulhuesque Traveller sounds interesting...........

thanks

Quite the let down with the lack of any names for these umpteen licences we've been teased with these past months. Or for any specifics on GoMC and BF:Evo. :o

On the other hand .... Welcome to the Doghouse! :D That'll do me.

They were different questions.

Kichaka asked about when we will see minis. Paladin asked when we will find out about licences.

Personally I want to know what the bottom end of the year is. January or December? It isn't a phrase I'm familiar with.

Sd to hear no news on the tabletop games side of things, i`m not into rpgs anymore..

BUT

Codename Veil ...!!!

Sounds like X-com to me and needs to be a tabletop game as well as a rpg....

Bottom end suggests December next year to me. In the spirit of the Times crossword, I say "Not until December? Uproar wave, perhaps".

Yes, I know we won't have minis until then, but was hoping to know what mini games you were actually hoping to produce. e.g. "Negotiations are still pending, look for news in the [insert value] ( e.g. later this month; January S&P; first quarter; next summer; end of 2010  )
