State of the game?

Mongoose
Hi just curious how things are going over to Mongoose HQ?

There doesn't seem to be much in the pipeline for ST - the release schedule says March for what remains, except for 'Battlegroups' of which as far as I know, very little has been said.

The reference cards have been mostly done from what I can see, but the finished PDF rules are still not around, and the fleet update with escorts was redacted and replaced with a toned down version shortly afterwards.

So - is there any update / future schedule etc pending?

Thanks :)

Battlegroups is a major expansion - new races, new ships for existing fleets - so that will take time. It will be a big thing and is possibly going to take a first look at some difficult conversions.

Not sure what was taken out of the escorts - so far as I can see the older version I got when it first went up is the same as the current version. The rest of the parts will filter down in the gaps.

Actually I think you're right. I downloaded update#1 and although there is a size difference between the current one and the one I have I don't see any obvious changes.
...which actually is a bit of a shame IMHO (I had hoped the anti-drone escorts would be fixed) - maybe that's for update #2?

If battlegroups is as you say then perhaps that will introduce the other fleets, and we'll start to see them added to the 'coming soon' list toward the middle of the year?

I think the thing with Fleet Update 1 was that ADB had asked Mongoose to take out the escort stuff for a brief time, then it was okay to put it back up. I don't know why.

I do find it odd that ships are being released without stats to use them with. DNL, F6 in particular. I am not buying ships until they have stats available to play them with. :?

I would dearly love to see the Battle Station and Mobile Base minis; using Starline 2400 versions of these works, (or my Lego versions) but they just look wrong next to the SL 2500 ships.

.

From commentary here and on the ADB discussion board they were discussing what and how to resolve a difference of opinion concerning ship limits. Once they solved how to proceed it came back....whether that timing is coincidence or causal I do not know but it fit events

Matt has said Lyrans are in - plus expansion of the Tholian and Orion lists - Im hoping for Hydrans, really hoping for Hydrans as that will complete the major players in the SFU for the whole timespan. ISC are major but late, Andros the same and the LDR and WYN can be added as we go.

I really hope Update#2 provides the much needed clarification that ADD's on ships with the escort trait can fire in defense of ships within range otherwise virtually all the non-Fed escorts are a waste of print.

In my escort range I had a range of 3" for ADDs fired at fighters or used to protect other ships.

I kept the escort range down so running escorts close enough to be of use meant risking getting caught in explosions.

ah give him some hydrans , my Lyrans will need something to eat

Yeah. But, once you get rid of the methane taste Hydran is almost completely ineatable.

Hydrans just give you gas. Im hoping from teh way the release schedule is going that the next rule book will do Orions and Lyrans plus biigger ships and so on and then the Hydrans appear in th esuplement that does fighters.....its a logical progession and logical positioning.
