Starship Names

If you're stuck for ship names it's always worth a look at the horse racing pages of the newspaper. For example, today's meeting at Windsor yielded the quite usable:
Leading Edge
Candela Bay
Brunelleschi
Anosti

from the first race alone. Good for filling a starport in a hurry.

Here's a few I just whipped off the top of my head. Enjoy.

The Whoopdedooo
The Immortality
The Belize
The Scranton
The PM Thatcher
The GW Bushwhacker
The Sentimental Journey
The Canonista
The Crow's Nest
The Supplement
The Heebee Jeebee
The Grande Poohbah
The Eternal Monk
The Stellar Gaze

I've used/seen..

Warlock
Sorcerer
Excalibur
Wraith
Specter
Predator
Star Prince
Marleener
Glory Hole
Paladin
Peacemaker
Gladiator
Bragancia
Defiant
Widfara
Lucky Credit
Grendel
Beowulf's Daughter

For years many of my different gaming groups all in my same 20+ yr campaign have had a ship called "StarScream".

Penn

The default name for my rapidly approaching campaign's Free or Far Trader will be the Second Chance unless the players change it.

Kinda lame, but the campaign's title is 'A Second Chance in the Spinward Marches' as I figure that captures the whole 'new beginning' feel to MongTrav Char Gen.

Scout ships:
Zephyr Wind
Starstorm
Event Horizon

Merchant Ships:
Glory Hole
Fuggeddaboutit
Passion Cove
The March of Dimes

Military Ships:
The Palemino (Gazelle CE)
Durigaar's Revenge (Broadsword)
The Silent Spectre

I did forget one of my light cruisers
"The Violins of Autumn"

odd really as it is currently illustrated on the front page of my website.
(www.skaran.net) for anyone interested.

"The Snakeyes"

metagaming reference to a specific series of really bad ship handling rolls by the players...that left their ship tumbling after ramming the ship they were attempting to rescue, with an unconscious electrocuted engineer(attempted damage control) , an equally unconscious medic (he tried a fancy acrobatics roll to get to the engineer by diving down an accessway), and a general crewman trapped in a depressurizing avionics room tearing out modules to find the leak....in the wrong place. All in one series of rolls: four consecutive rolls of snakeyes...I am not making this up. Ships motto : "we suck".

I just decided to give my players a clapped out Free Trader called 'Disreputable Dog'.

It may, or may not have a launch or ship's vehicle called, 'Mogget'

:)

Hi,

I'm kind of partial to names like:

Venturer
Wanderer
Traveler
Explorer
Voyager, and
Sojourner, etc

or maybe some variation on those (such as Outrim Voyager, Stellar Explorer, Distant Wanderer, etc). Though in the past I have sometimes just used names of lakes, rivers, stars, or constellations etc.

Regards

PF

Destiny's Call (private scout / explorer)
Uncas (military scout)
Rim Rover (free trader)
Cormorant (free trader - see below)
Conestoga (colony transport)
Duke of Wellington (cruiser)
Smithsonian (cultural exchange ship / flying museum)

The Bird Class of free traders was developed on Terra and named
after a famous Terran industrialist with the family name Bird.
This information somehow got lost when the blueprints of the class
were handed over to shipyards in the frontier regions, and all the
ships of that class constructed there now are named after birds.

This reminds me of the Type A pun stealthed into G:T Interstellar Wars.

My absolute favorite was the name of one of the Azhanti High Lightning-class frontier cruisers – Haunting Warlord.

Corsair-"Scimitar"
Lab Ship-"Foundation"
Trader-"Golden Falcon"

One can not forget the "Enterprise". Which we all know as an aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy. For some reason I think that might be a good name for a ship. Actually they should make a show about a crew of a ship named "Enterprise".

Or how about the "USS Ronald Regan"?
