SST RPG FORUM

Mongoose
I did a post this morning on a thread about the missing SST RPG forum. I was a little critical of Mongoose for getting rid of the forum without any seeming consultation and the fact that that they seem very quick to blow their own trumpet about things that reflect well on them but rather slower in answering critical questions.

I can't seem to find the thread now. It might still be here but I can't see it. If it is, my apologies.

Has the thread been removed?

If it is still here, where can I find it?

If it is not here, has it been removed for good?

If it has, why?

Is it because the thread had critical comments about Mongoose? I can't believe that is the case, but stranger things have happened.

I run a d20 SST campaign and found the forum very useful. I would like to know whether it has gone for good. I don't think that is too much to ask, as i have bought these products from Mongoose and a little loyalty from Mongoose would be appreciated.

Will we be able to post stuff for the D20 version in the new one or will it be Traveller only.

If it is going to be Traveller only, can we have a D20 one to repopulate?

Thanks for the quick reply Mr msprange.

I would second the desperate call of lastbesthope.

The sun may be setting on this game of ours but let us not just fade away - many great deeds have been recorded in those hallowed halls and much wisdom was shared. Let us not forget those who gave so much for so little. Let us remember them as they stood in the sun, bright with promise. Do not let the beacon of our hopes flicker and die. We are as candles in the dark, but our flame is bright.

You May All bow to me! Then of course go save the threads that you want to keep. :)

If you go too far back the forums aren't saved.

Was the decision to scrap the forum discussed or was it just decided by the Mongoose top bananas without a care for their loyal customers?

The forums are crowded enough as they are with different games, and we try to keep things neat and attractive - supporting two versions of the same game would be a route to madness, particularly for new players. You do, of course, have the 'Other Roleplaying Games' forum, where you would be more than welcome to discuss previous editions.

Mr Msprange,

Why could you not also answer my question, about whether there was any consultation? It would only have taken you 30 seconds.

Could you not have transferred what was in there to the 'Other Role-Playing Games' forum if you were worried about having too many forums? Also, i don't really get your reasoning that you have too many forums and it would confuse people. Could you not have just renamed the forum SST D20 and the new one SST: Traveller? I suppose I don't really believe that the limit you have for your forums precluded you from keeping this one, especially when it is so hard to get a straight answer about whether there was any consultation before hand.

As I have said before, you made the d20 SST and I, amongst others, bought it, shelling out a fair bit of money of the main rules and the supplements you produced. There are many games that have been made but have gone out of print that keep the forums for the game going. Why could you not do the same?

I just feel that you don't really have any loyalty to those who have bought your products, which is not a good feeling and I wish I didn't have it. But there you go.

So, for a final time, could you tell me whether you consulted your customers before getting rid of the SST forum?

Sorry this sounds confrontational. I don't mean it to be, but I would just like to know the answer.

When there are two games with the _same_ name, we can only support one, for many different reasons, including clarity for new customers and the time we can devote to them. We have been exceedingly open about our plans for the SST RPG, more so, we believe than many other companies might have been.

Thank you for answering. I do realise that you are busy but I am trying to understand what happened to a valuable forum and so would like to get some answers.

I didn't realise you had been open with your customers. If you were, I appologise. It is just that reading the thread you recently deleated it gave the impression that it came as a shock to those that posted.

So, from what you said, would it be correct to say that you consulted with those that used the forum and discussed what was going to happen before you closed it?

It seems a real shame that some of the threads were just allowed to dissapear without anyone being able to move / copy the info somewhere else.

I've been playing E-mail tag with Matthew Sprange and he said that I could create my own SST D20 forum on my website for us to repopulate. We didn't go into details beyond that but it appears that the old content is gone.

Feel free to sign up for my forums. I won't sell your information to anyone, I hate when companies do that "stuff". I just wanted us to have somewhere to discuss our favorite version of this game. That could change when SST:Trav comes out but we'll blow up that bridge when we get to it. :)

Thanks James for the info. It seems such a crying shame that all that info was lost. Were you all consulted before the forum was closed?

Not I, but I'm not the hugest poster of SST info either.

Was anyone consulted that you know of? It seems that the fact I can't get a straight answer to this question from the powers that be suggests that no one was consulted. By no one, I mean users of the forum that are not employed by mongoose. I hope I am wrong, as i think this would be a little shoddy on behalf of Mongoose, but as I can't get a straight answer i guess it must be true.
