SST Miniatures List

Oh no, new cap troops. :(

 Looks like I will have to do another power suit platoon...

I had no problems with the cap troopers once I got the first one assembled. Shoot, I rather enjoyed them. Very easy to get all kinds of unique poses and such. I've got guys asking for orders, corporals yelling at troops to get down, medics working on wounded soldiers, etc. I'll get some pics up once I get them painted (yeah, still have a bunch to do...)

If we can't have prepainted, I really do hope we get plastic figs. Metal is such a pain in the rear to customize.

Yea, I had fun with the Cap Troopers too Lol!

And the Skinnie Raiders!

Metal is harder to convert, but I enjoy the challenge kwim?

Not me. I'm having a heck of a time just with simple reposes on my battletech miniatures. And some of those are designed just right for it too! Looking at my LAMI, I just can't seem to figure out a good way to redo any of them and have it look decent.

LAMI are difficult, but not impossible.

A Bionic Arm on the officer being the easiest.

You will have a lot more poses for them to begin with in the new range.

IF they are going to be as complicates as the old, I wholeheartedly agree. I'm not sure I could play the game cleaning up/cutting every mini off the sprues if they where metal. Unfortunately, metal is the plan. I'm hoping they will be in the 4-6 piece max range with more core poses.

Do metal figures come on a sprue nowadays? :?
They do from Reaper and Iron Wind Metals. Not the same sprues like plastic models. Normally 1-3 bits per 1-1.5" sprue. On many fantasy minis it's often integrated into the base of the figure for mounting in slotted bases.

I've never seen metal figures on sprues (except of course the sloting thingie which is a functional issue).
I know metal weapon sprues (like those for Necromunda) but no figures coming in sprues.

And no, metal figures can be quite posable - best examples are Firefries and Guard Bugs. They just should not be massive metal blocks like the current LAMI.

Agreed. It also depend on the hardeness/type metal used by the company and the minis in question.
Bugs - no prob.
Humans - different story.

Why do you say that, Privateer Press produce really nice single cast and multi-part metal Human Miniatures.

Its more than possible Mongoose could follow that path, it might mean a price increase though.

I tried to do a conversion, with metal, of some lami officers and so far they aint half bad but still got to paint them. However I was trying to put a sicon agent's head on a LAMI sgt, but when I snipped his head off I lost it. Darnit!

I feel your pain dude!
When I was putting together my first Sprite (Ala Mr Evil) I decided that I'd use the crouching leg set, snip off the waist segmant and do a little bit of easy sculpting so he could sit down.
Sniped it off, promptly lost the leg (And to this day I haven't got a clue where the hell it went...), ended up having to sculpt a entire new leg leg!

Theses aren't real sprues. These are just some mold remnants.
Sprues are something like the Arachnid Warrior Sprue, the MI CAP Trooper Sprue or the Marauder Sprue.

I'm not saying you can't. I'm just saying the level of work is higher via the current method of production or taking the opposite approach of a 1 piece cast.
On most bugs you can trim the edges, glue away and run with them.
Most humans you typically have to use greenstuff to clean them up and fix clothing/armor/joints to get them to look natural.
"Ball joints" at the shoulders and hips would allow for flexibility of reposing/variation without much work.

Without the need for "I have to prove myself right", I think Galatea is referring to the frames that Plastic Kits come on - that have come to be commonly known as Sprues.
