SPORE CC

Standing-Stone

Banded Mongoose
Sorry if you think this is alittle off topic. After downloading the free trial Creature Creator for EA's SPORE. The full game yet to be realesed later on thsi year in September.

I based one of my first creations on the Hiver and uploaded it to You-tube.

Yeah, I know it's not spot on, but I 'm only working with 25% of a full game.

The Mrs. just asked me, "is he torturing the poor hiver?"

I only counted 5 limbs, so, "I suspect so, after all, it only had 5 limbs..."

Hiver.png

There are five limbs that it walks on.

Plus the head limb.

Now I did , six limbs plus the head limb. ( I will fix that.)

Though you can see in the picture there that there is vestigal limb at the front next to the head limb that looks like the limb that is the real hand.

So in that respect I am correct. Though not spot on.

( I will work on that also.)

There is also supposed to be a rear limb thats supposed to be for 'swapping genetic material' so they can have young. I'm not sure is this is hidden extra limb or just one of the back limbs.

Not sure how they get rid of waste.

http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Hiver.

It says that Hiver don't make any sounds. Well, the noises it makes in this game demo can't be helped. I guess the programmers didn't have Hiver or Traveller in mind when puting this together.

I did put suction-cups on each of it's walking limbs. Though they could be swapped over for graspers that are identicle to what I put on the head limb. Though it doesn't even look like it's truly walking. Hand walking isn't a strong suit of anything created in this Spore game. Though those graspers do look remarkably alot like what is in that picture.

So, if it appears that I was torturing the Hiver. Then it's unintenional.

I welcome any body elses art work with amore accurate schematic the Hiver.

I may also put up another video of the even earlier version I did of this strange creautre.

I quote from Alien Module 7..

"At the center of the lower surface of the body is a single, multi-purpose opening...[It] leads to separate channels for the digestive system.., the excretory system.., and the reproductive system...A system of manipulatory organs (analogous to the human tongue) push food, excrement, and reproductive cells around to the proper channels."

All together now...EEWWWWW!!

A Hiver has 6 limbs:

The Prime Limb: Teh head (doubles as a "hand"), with 6 eyes, 6 IR sensors, 3 ears;

The "Tail": Directly opposite the "head" - this is the bit that "shakes hands" (also doubles as a leg and is *not* hidden away ;) );

A "Leg": four of these, two on the left, two on the right.

So, starting at the 12 o'clock position, a Hiver's limbs are arranged as follows:

12 o'clock = Prime Limb/head

2 o'clock = "Leg" 1

4 o'clocl = "Leg" 2

6 o'clock = The "Tail"

8 o'clock = "Leg" 3

10 o'clock = "Leg" 4

Aint we grand, eh? ;)

The picture is from CT AM 7. That's not a vestigial hand - it's a Hiver hand gun - an auto pistol, I think (those of you with CT AM7 can check exactly which weapon it is, though ;) Thanks).

In the B&W picture the Hiver has:

A chest computer: Hiver use these for translating Hiver tentacle-waving "speech" into computer generated speech, or for taking spoken speech and converting it to Hiver tentacle-waving. This allows Hivers to "speak" to humans and other vocally communicating species (and, if absolutely necessary, the K'kree ;) ).

A utility belt: The black band around the Hiver is its utility belt. Attatched to the belt on either side of the body are satchels, for putting things in. Hivers like to have places to put things. Very neat and tidy ;)

The utility belt doubles as a holster and/or bandolier for weapons (when carried) and a Hiver's chest computer can be attached to it if necessary, although chest computers do normally come with a neck belt (in any colour you like, as long as it's black ;) ).

SS Warlock,

They obviously have no tastebuds.

Gruffy the Hiver,

Thanks for the detailed description.

So that Vestigal hand is actualley a weapon.

It's either hanging off the ultility belt that I can't see, or nothing is holding on to it. Still looks like a small hand that is holding a ball or globe or something.

Going back to 'Rear- hand shaking'. Every time I think of it. I also think of the Secret Mason Handshake from Architect sketch on the old Monty Python 's Flying Circus show.

As demonstrated at 3:55 onwards to 4:20...

Yup, dat's rite. It's hanging off the utility belt. The Hiver in the picture has a satchel hanging to the (our) right of its "head", which is attached to the utility belt. The hand gun/weapon's holster (for Hivers do use them ;) ) is also attached to the utility belt.

It could be either a Hiver auto pistol, or a Hiver laser pistol. In the absence of a visible powerpack and power connection cord in the B&W picture, I'd suggest it's actually a Hiver auto pistol in its holster.

Here's a better view of a Hiver with a utility belt, satchels, chest computer and a Rifle.

Here are my last three You-tube uploads of the Hiver.

The first one is the first one I ever attempted. As you can see the head arm is riding on top of the torso here. I probably should have removed the elbow to make it more like a tentacle. It's coloured purple. Then I saw the colourised photo of the Hiver on the front cover of one of the Gurps source boks. Same as the picture on bottom of Gruffty's portrait.

Here is my third revision of the same creature ( Same as the creature from the first video.) as you can see, it's got the little arm/grasper right underneath the head. This was before I found out it might be a gun.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoCmHzUwFww

Here is the last ever Hiver Video, That little arm split into two, was accident and I couldn't really work with it anyother way. Here I have removed the grasper and replaced it with a projectile weapon. That creature here, also has a arm/grasper as it's 'hand-shaking' rear limb.

I feel the need for a proper art book based on this Travellar game. Not enough pictures of Hivers in the game books so far. I'm not tokking about black n white pictures, but phtos of coloured artwork and paintings.

I may have a go at Droyne and the K'Kree when I get the full version of this Creator game.

Right now, I'm listening to 'Bal-Tech's Lament'. How fitting it is!

egarding you quotin from one of source books regarding the 'Hiver's' perculier way getting rid of waste.

Reminds me of one particular episode of 'South Park'. Though I won't even eleborate on that.
