Spinward Marches Cover?

Nice artwork but is that REALLY going to be the final cover? Possibly the most hideous font I've seen.

It looks like it has been slapped together rather than seen a proper design team go at it. Compared to absolutely anything in the Mongoose range this looks cheap and nasty. If I saw that in a shop I'd probably pass it by, it really screams amateur product. Sorry.

Without starting a ....ahem...."name writing in the snow match", I kind of like it. Its an odd font, true, but it stands out - and not, in my opinion, as cheap, just....different.

But, I have been seeing cheap and nasty amateur products since the dawn of roleplaying, so my bar may be quite low for this.....

Old typewriter font blown up xerographically and pasted on with the lines showing.....SHUDDER ! Name that game !

To be honest I was hoping that it was only going to be the classic black covers with no artwork...I often find most RPG artwork pretty mediocre and the Spinward Marches cover doesn't really do much for me...

Whereas I'm very glad that Mongoose went beyond the crappy LBB covers. I'm always bemused when people point to those dull, black covers as the pinnacle of game art design when there were some really awesome covers with actual art made for CT books (eg Spinward Marches Campaign, Atlas of the Imperium).

Both of which I found very ugly.

I liked the solution for the Traveller Book: Black with red stripe hardcover, but the dust jacket had a (to me barely passable) color artwork.

Oh, and I strongly dislike the illo up for Spinward Marches. Blech.

I just think that the LBB covers are timeless and classic...they're never going to date as fashions and technology move on.

I look now at the old AD&D stuff I have...I love the books but for reasons of nostalgia...the artwork sucks! Take one of my favourite modules B1 Keep on the Borderlands..I love it as it was the first module I ever played and I actually have half a dozen copies but my 2 year old son could draw a better cover!

Personally I love the LBB covers (and right behind them the covers with the color bars across the top and bottom of the cover like the FFE reprints of CT).

Until the newer version of the Spinward Marches (TSM) book, all the MGT books were being shown as having a very classic "LBB" look.

I don't mind the artwork for MGT:TSM shown on the website, even though I'm not that crazy about the style (there are many artists who IMO are better).

But, that font... SUCKS... nothing less. it's reminiscent with the font for Babylon 5 (for which it's font worked for it quite well) but it is totally wrong for Traveller.

I would very much like to see all the MGT books look like what MG is already showing for MGT, High Guard, and Mercenaries. They would look great on my shelf as well as when I'm using them in the game.

but, that's just my 0.02 Cr
