[Spica] Field Manual (FM) [SP 0100] now available on DTRPG!

Spica Publishing is pleased to announce the release of its latest product for Mongoose Traveller - FIELD MANUAL!

Written by Bryan Gibson, who has provided art, conceptual designs and illustrations for Traveller for nearly thirty years, and Daniel W. Hammersley, who has written one sourcebook and five adventure modules to the Traveller TNE: 1248 line, Field Manual looks at the life and work of mercenaries both in and out of the Third Imperium.

FIELD MANUAL

From time immemorial there have been warriors. Men who fought not from need or as conscripts but as their trade.
Warriors are not a phenomenon unique to man; virtually every culture has warriors, from the Ancients to the Vargr and Aslan.
And where there are warriors, there are those who fight, not for clan, nation, race or creed, but rather for pay.

They are the mercenaries.

Field Manual provides Referees and players with all the information needed to run Mercs in a Traveller game or campaign, including:

  • Everything you need to know about mercenaries in Traveller: what makes a mercenary; how they behave, and why they do what they do; why they are what they are; and how they engage in their very dangerous trade.
  • The daily affairs of mercenaries: what makes a good contract and why; a Merc’s daily life and routine; how they operate within the Third Imperium; and why many are just as happy to operate outside its borders.
  • A look at the different types of mercenary units: including detailed write-ups of Merrick’s Rangers, The Dark Angels starmercs, and more.
  • A first glimpse of Urnian subsector in Foreven sector: the sector’s political entities and events, and a detailed look at its history.
  • The Inanye, a new alien species!
  • A Change of Management, a complete mercenary adventure, including a planetary summary with planetary and local maps.

FIELD MANUAL is available to download as a PDF from Spica Publishing for $ 9.99 at DriveThruRPG.com, and while you're there don’t forget to take a look at our other products as well (and check out the reviews too)!

The Traveller Core Rulebook is available from Mongoose Publishing.
"Traveller" and the Traveller Logo are Trademarks owned by Far Future Enterprises, Inc., and are used with permission.

This book goes into more detail of how a mercenary unit is run.
It also provides several mercenary units as examples.
It details a subsector of Foreven Sector and discusses specifically how mercenaries work in and around the Third Imperium.

Some of the information is similar, but much of it is complementary to what is in Mercenary and expands upon the theme within the OTU setting.

Rikki Tikki Traveller is dead on. "Field Manual" really does complement Mercenary nicely.

Included in the PDF are write-ups on four mercenary units with details on important NPCs and a list of books and movies related to mercenary actions. The merc unit info is detailed enough to drop wholesale into a campaign and hit the ground running.

The real gem though is the information on the life of a merc. While Mongoose's "Mercenary" describes how to roll up a merc, how to generate their work, and what their tools are, "Field Manual" describes in detail who they are and how they live.

Put the two books together and you've got one rocking merc campaign. All IMO, of course. I grabbed my copy not too long ago from DriveThruRPG (it's still on sale there) and have never regretted it.

Hey, excellent work deserves to be recognized and appreciated.

And thank you for your service to the country. I also greatly appreciate the freedoms I've had all my life because of people like you.

Mssr SSWarlock, (Your Excellency)

I will pass this onto my co-author, Mr Bryan Gibson, who wrote the lion's share of this book. He too served in uniform, and as my signature line reads, he also "walked the walk". I would also like to thank Mssr John Griffiths of SPICA Press who gave us "the green-light", and an outlet for our work to be used by Traveller gamers .

Thank you once again! It was a distinct honor to serve.

It minutia a sub sector of Foreven Sector and talks about expressly how mercenaries work in and round the Third Imperil.

Mssr markrusell,

Yes. And Urnian is spinwards of the Five Sisters Subsector (formerly District 267 until officially named by Emperor Paulo I in 740). Some of the mercs in the NPC files come from there...

Where is the reference to Five Sisters formerly being District 267 from?

*Jame, who feels like he hasn't read enough Traveller, and really ought to go get the CDs from FFE*

It is mentioned in the Traveller Wiki, but I am not sure which of the sour-
ces mentioned there was the original one:
