Space: 1939 Campaign

Dear Friends -

My Traveller Campaign setting begins with Space: 1939 - the premise is mysterious advanced technology is found just before WWII, but is hidden by a cabal of scientists. WWII proceeds as it until around just after the Allied invasion of Normandy. Then, a faction of the scientists decides to support Field Marshal Erwin Rommel overthrow the Nazi Regime, with the help of advanced jets, mecha and General Patton ! However, the other scientists then break away to support other nations.

This setting then leads to Space: 1999.2, where the Anderson-verse elements of Space:1999, UFO, Captain Scarlet and Thunderbirds exist, against a backdrop of a continuing Cold War among the US, UK, Soviet Union, Chinese Empire, Japanese Empire, German Reich, and a sinister Nazi State in the Antarctic ! 2001: A Space Oddysey also is there, where the monoliths play a Stargate-esque role. So, there is a major nuclear dump explosion on 13 Sept 1999, but the Moon otherwise remains in orbit - thanks to TMA-1 and Hal ! The 2010 US/USSR Leonov expedition to Jupiter pushes through, but does not trigger Jupiter becoming a sun. And Captain Black does get his by the Mysterons in Mars, but a bit earlier !

So, this is my way of making use of my favorite genres, "tubepunk" - such as what we have with Gear Krieg, Dust, Luftwaffe 1946 and Rocketship Empires and the works of Gerry Anderson !

This all in turn is a substitute setting for Twilight / 2300 AD, as a prelude to the OTU Classic Third Imperium (up to 5FW), which is MTU !!!

heh I've gone a different route, with the high up Nazi's escaping from the war on a generation ship. They proceeded to make themselves functionally immortal using their medical knowledge and the cloning technology they discovered.

This in turn led them to cloning a race to serve them who look remarkably like the Grey Aliens everyone associates with UFO's

Unfortunately for the Nazis their immortality fails at providing new brains, and eventually they all die, leaving the clones in charge of their own destiny.

Which they have decided is Retake the Motherland...

Currently they are fighting Alien races in VERY low tech ships, but they have access to the cloning process, so every generation gets a bit smarter or more specialised, and alien races with useful genetic traits are absorbed.

In my campaign, I'm still figuring out the link between Nazis and aliens, possibly something along your lines, where the aliens of UFO and the Mysterons would be Nazi allies, Nazi genetic products or time-travelling Nazi descendants from the future.

If you wanted to throw in Psionics, you can add The Champions to the mix.

Craig Stirling, Richard Barrett and Sharon MacCready were three operatives of the UN's Nemesis justice agency. On a mission to China to steal a virulent bacterium, their plane got tagged and crashed in the Himalayas, severely injuring all three.

When they woke up, they were miraculously healed of all their wounds and had been restored to perfect health. More than perfect health. They found that they had acquired unaccountable, strange powers. Telepathy. Clairvoyance. Lightning calculation and eidetic memories. Incredible physical strength, dexterity and endurance. The ability to hypnotise with a glance and a few softly spoken words, in one instance. In later years, they even learn teleportation, which they call "Jaunting" after the Bester reference.

By the mid - 1970s, they had learned how to pass on their gifts to others. Having left Nemesis before its dissolution in the Bratwurst Scandal of 1979, they went forth, each to a different continent to look for recruits.

They were never to meet physically in one place again. They had no need to - the gestalt mind that was forming between the three of them meant that they were becoming, in a way, one single entity with three bodies.

Now in 2009, and not looking a day older than when they were "treated" by those mysterious (and oddly ethnically white) Himalayan monks back in 1968, they have a small army of secret agents endowed with the most remarkable powers, bringing order and justice to the world and carrying on the traditions of the old, unsullied Nemesis, from the days before its infiltration (along with UNIT and UNCLE) by their archenemies, The Men in Black: a mysterious, alien race that even the Mysterons shun.

They don't call themselves The Champions, or even Nemesis. Those in the know call them "The Tremayne Foundation." Others simply know their youthful agents as "The Tomorrow People."

I got goosebumps upon reading your post about the Champions. I just discovered the show recently when I saw an ancient VHS boxed set of the program in the Geneva Flea Market. And, the Champions were based in Geneva, where I am located now !

The Canon incorporates the following:

Movies - James Bond Series, Indiana Jones Series, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, 2001 A Space Odyssey, 2010 Odyssey Two.

TV Series - UFO, Space:1999, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, X-Files

RPG and Other Backgrounds: Gear Krieg, Dust (partially), Rocketship Empires (partially), 1946 (partially).

Timeline:

1930s:
Development of spacecraft, flying airbases, amphibious aircraft, war robots, ray guns, etc. Construction of moonbase discreetly begins, supervised by Nikola Tesla. Events portrayed in movie "Sky Captain and the World of Tommorrow" Tesla group mysteriously disappears after explosion on moonbase .
WWII begins.
1940s:
WWII Ends. Nazi and other Axis super-scientists split into independent ("Odessa"), pro-US and pro-USSR groups. "Odessa" establishes secret base in Antarctica.
1947:
Nazi space and genetic technology advances, Nazi UFO crashes in Roswell.
US encourages public perception that Nazi supertechnology is Alien and to mask US-Nazi collaboration, and establishes Majestic-12 group to coordinate "counter-Alien" policy and covert action. "Men in Black" (MIB) is the implementing agency.
1950s:
US, USSR, UK, France and China (UN P-5) representatives meet and agree to cooperate on counter-Alien measures.
1960s:
US establishes "National Council on Astronautics" (NCA) to supervise NASA, MJ-12, MIB, and other convert agencies. Renegade government and criminal groups SMERSH and SPECTRE, covertly supported by Odessa, emerge as leading threats to P-5. Odessa establishes base on Mars, and renames itself the "Mysterons". Mysterons intensify abduction and organ harvesting operations on Earth. US President Kennedy plans to reveal MJ-12 conspiracy, is assassinated.
1970s:
UN P-5 establishes covert Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organization (SHADO), and overt organizations Lunar Finance Committee (LFC) and International Rescue (IR).
1980s:
Events portrayed in TV series "UFO" and "Thunderbirds"
1990s:
NCA develops artifical intelligence, leading to "HAL" computer.
SHADO moonbase expanded to Moonbase Alpha. US, USSR and China establish their own moonbases. USSR withdraws military forces from Eastern Europe (but otherwise does not collapse).
West and East Germany reunite as the 4th German Reich.
1999:
NCA discovers alien monolith (TMA-1) in Tycho crater. LFC's lunar nuclear waste site explodes, creating creation of a "doppelganger" moon swept into an inter-dimensonal portal (events portrayed in series Space: 1999).
2001:
NCA dispatches Discovery Mission to Jupiter.
2010:
USSR dispatches Leonov Mission to Jupiter.
2020s:
SPECTRUM established as successor to SHADO.
Events portrayed in series Captain Scarlet.
2030s:
New race to colonize space begins in earnest.
