G. Low gravity increases the distance projectiles will travel but not the ability of personnel to aim.

H. There is no effect out to 100 metres, after which DM-2 applies to shots made out to 1,000 metres.

I. This DM is reduced by one for every level of the Vacc Suit skill the shooter has, reflecting an ability to predict the effects of low or zero gravity and does not apply to lasers or similar energy weapons.

J. Extreme range can be considered doubled in minimal or zero gravity.

K. Once the range goes to a hundred metres in low gravity conditions, might as well use some other slug thrower, brace yourself, and take an aimed shot.

L. The Confederation Navy standard onboard personal defence weapon would be the Advanced Snub Submachinegun.

M. Or ASS, in short.

N. Technological level nine, assault receiver, assault barrel, quickdraw, vacuumized, full automatic fire/four, range twenty five metres, laser pointer, ammunition advanced snub rounds.

O. Advanced Revolver Standard Equipment would be a snubbed variant to substitute for the Ceremonial Revolver, issued by the onboard armoury.

P. Technological level nine, handgun receiver, assault barrel, quickdraw, range twenty five metres, ammunition advanced snub rounds.

Q. It occurs to me that a snub gun could be a candidate for a survival rifle.

R. You would want them to either deal with big predators, or put dinner on the table.

S. There's a good chance that the bunny can see the bullet coming, and get out of it's way.

T. In my experience I rarely need to to take a longer shot than 45 yards on even wary rabbits. I usually fill my bag with shots anywhere from 10-15 yards to 30-35 or so.

U. Carbine barrel would be forty five metres, short eleven and a quarter metres.

V. Preppers are going to be interested in really cheap ammunition.

W. Shot down pilots are likely to have a limited number of bullets, and are going to want to have the most effective selection, to discourage large predators, and stay out of a prisoner of war camp.

X. Twelve gauge slug is four dice, plus recoil.

Y. Explosive bullet, five dice minus three, no recoil.

Z. Yogi might decide that picnic basket isn't worth it.

I thought snub weapons were supposed to just be small shaped charges? I dunno about you but im not sure explosive rounds of any type really seem like the best hunting situation to me

Depends on what you're using them for.

The prepper variant tends to be a twenty two long rifle, small enough to be folded into a backpack.

The paramilitary one would have likely two barrels, one rifle or pistol calibre, the other shotgun.

Assumption here is that you combine both functions into one calibre.

When you're having Bugs over for lunch, you use the default three minus three; when you see Yogi charging you, you switch to explosive bullet.

1. The Quickdraw features fizzles out at twenty five metres, with an additional minus one penalty to accuracy.

2. Stocked weapons only negate accuracy penalty at twenty five metres plus.

3. So you could use your rather long barrelled (assault) snub revolver, as a survival gun.

4. You need to either sneak up on that bunny to within twenty five metres, or lure him in to that range.

5. If you feel the need to ward off Yogi, he'll be approaching you, at speed.

6. Your accuracy penalty has dropped to minus one, within twenty five metres, and grown to minus three beyond that.

7. Without a full stock, it would be minus five.

8. A more dedicated snubbed survival rifle, with a handgun receiver, wouldn't have the Quickdraw feature, and would have a full stock, so the penalty beyond twenty five metres remains at minus two.

9. There are a number of options that will increase accuracy beyond twenty five metres.

A. If barrel length can be calculated on weight, let's assume an assault length for a ten millimetre calibre is nine inches (probably slightly more).

B. That would be three inches for a short barrel, and six inches for a handgun barrel.

C. Minimal barrel would be three half dice minus three (modified zero to six), penetration minus three, so no thank you.

D. Bothe the short and handgun barrels reduce penetration, so that drops to minus two.

E. Range would be for advanced snubbery, five metres for the short barrel, and ten metres for the handgun barrel.

F. Short barrel increases the physical signature to normal, minimal to high, and the other two remain at the modified low.

I think for The Final Frontier, anyone carrying around an assault barrelled snub pistol, means business, and has a danger area around twenty five metres.

This isn't meant for concealed carry, unless it's stuffed in your backpack.

If you want to take full advantage of recoil neutral, you can add automatic/two burst fire, and extended magazine, so this actually might be the successor to the home defence shotgun.

Speaking of which, the issue with the heavy handgun is that it's bulky, which means you need strength/nine to neutralize that.

Another thing to consider is the cost of listed default ammunition, both in Central Supply and Core.

It's a six round magazine for a semiautomatic pistol, the magazine itself costs one and a half starbux, based on design rules and snub pistol listed cost of one hundred fifty starbux.

That's eight and a half starbux for six bullets, or 1.41666666667 each.

Compared to Field Catalogue's one and a half starbux each.

That would be a 5.555555555% discount.

The snub carbine seems very off, at seventy five metres range.

At technological level eleven, we could use advanced projectile weapon to increase range to fifty metres, very long barrel to sixty two and a half metres, which falls short of listed seventy five metres.

Magazine is five starbux, twenty five starbux divided by twenty bullets, is one and a quarter starbux per round.

Can't really be reconciled with Field Catalogue.

Accurized is probably not worth it, since after ten metres, you might as well rocket rollize.

I'm sure that the SC, traitors to the proper Imperial authorities that they are, would use TL12 equipment as minimum standard, instead of TL9.

Much like in the Imperium, where less is for local forces and higher is for strike forces.

G. First modularization is a freebie.

H. You can change barrels, especially if you don't need a stock.

I. I'm going to guess that too long a barrel is going to create balancing issues.

J. Cheapest modernish bullet appears to be that of the listed advanced combat rifle.

K. Magazine ten starbux, five starbux divided by forty rounds is twelve and a half centimes each.

GIGN's MR73 Sniper Revolver in .357 Magnum

Courtesy of the French Ministry of the Interior, we have a chance to take a look at an authentic GIGN sniper model MR73 revolver today. GIGN is the elite intervention element of the French Gendarmerie, akin to GSG9 in Germany or the FBI Hostage Rescue Team in the US. Back in the 1970s, the service was looking for a standard sidearm, and wanted something capable of significant stopping power, immediate use from the holster, maximum accuracy, and an exceptionally long lifespan. The .357 Magnum cartridge was chosen, and the Manurhin company designed the MR-73 revolver specifically to provide the desired accuracy and the durability to maintain that accuracy through years of daily training use.

The MR73 was purchased and used mostly with 4" and 5" barrels, but a small number were also purchased by GIGN with 8" barrels, to be made into scoped sniper models. These were fitted with a Harris bipod on custom mount, and a Bushnell 2.5x pistol scope. Outfitted this way, they were capable of pinpoint precise shots in very tight quarters where a rifle would not be a practical option. They were not meant to replace rifles in all situations; GIGN is one of those elite agencies with great latitude in arms procurement. This scoped revolver was one of many options available in their arsenal, for particular situations calling for it.

That said, GIGN have deliberately cultivated the image of being first-tier operators who deliberately choose to use the revolver as a powerful and classy old-school weapon - although this is mostly done for ceremonial duties today.

L. A lot of Solomani spacers are going to be retired Confederation Navy and Marine Corps personnel.

M. The Advanced Snub Submachinegun is going to be too expensive (and dangerous) to be permitted to be a mustering out benefit, though I'm going to guess that there are civilian knockoffs, of varying qualities.

N. Commissioned and warrant officers are likely to acquire Ceremonial Revolvers, the smart ones would opt for those calibred in snub ammunition.

O. At this stage of technological development, you could have both a standard cylinder, and a replaceable cylinder/speedloader combination, that could be vacuum sealed for ammunition freshness.

P. One advantage that a revolver cylinder exhibits, is the capability to switch chambers, loaded with different types of ammunition.

Q. The business variant of the Ceremonial Revolver would be the Advanced Snub (Semi)automatic Pistol.

R. That would be ASAP.

S. It's not going to have a compatible magazine with the submachinegun, since that would be fitted for an assault receiver, modified for one hundred fifty percent high capacity, and one hundred fifty percent ammunition capacity, which depending on the interpretation of the rules, is either sixteen plus eight plus eight, or sixteen plus eight plus twelve.

T. Going by the example given, INTERSTELLAR ORDNANCE ADVANCED INFANTRY WEAPON SYSTEM, it's receiver modified by ammunition as base, plus High Capacity times base, plus ammunition capacity times base.

U. Though I was thinking keeping it in multiples of twelve, with automatic/four fully automatic that would spray out twelve bullets at four targets.

V. The Advanced Snub Submachinegun would have an Advanced Cooling System.

W. Combine that with a one kilogramme hundred point chill can, that would be one continuous stream of lead.

X. Since it's already bulked up, extended one hundred fifty percent magazine.

Y. Presumably forty eight rounds, going by the book example.

Z. Belts and drum magazines seem surprisingly clumsy.

1. Handgun receiver is ten rounds, modified to eight by ten millimetre snub ammunition.

2. Single shot modifies receiver cost by seventy five percent.

3. Repeater cuts ammunition capacity to four and cost by half.

4. Reduce ammunition capacity by eighty seven and a half percent, cost and loaded weight drops by forty three and a three quarters percent.

5. You'd think that weight and volume would drop by other reduction factors in ammunition capacity.

6. Anyway, what is being designed are weapon systems for Confederation personnel, that would be optimized for what they want to achieve, against opponents they expect, in either a generalized wat or a specific environment.

7. Snub ammunition is selected to be used in low or zero gravity environments, and/or spacecrafts, their delivery platforms to be somewhat idiot proof.

8. Not everyone can handle the Advanced Snub Submachinegun, meant to be used against large numbers of opponents at rather close range, and the Ceremonial Revolvers there for show, or single opponents at a time.

9. So, the Advanced Snub (Semi)automatic Pistol is developed to try to bridge the difference.
