Solo Adventure available on DriveThru!

The first in a series of solo adventures for Mongoose RuneQuest is now up on DriveThru and available at little more than the cost of a couple of pints.

It's 44 pages of exciting adventure lavishly illustrated with high quality artwork. Take a novice or starting character through their paces on your own without the need for a GM or other players. Those with fond memories of the old RQII SoloQuest will know what I mean. For those that don't, do yourselves a favour and check it out.

Have a look, buy it (please) and let me know what you think.

That looks rather nice and very professional. I particularly like the NPC boxed stats, loads better than Mongoose's format.

Will probably buy a copy after I get paid.

Kudos.

Hi,

This looks good, but you may want to double check all your stats, the troll is reported as wearing armour and yet has none in his stats.

the troll is reported as wearing armour and yet has none in his stats

In this instance the evil blighter is dozing in his chair when you come across him - the description says his armour is lying in a pile at his feet. So yes; he has armour but he's not wearing it. This is deliberate as throughout I've been careful to balance how well an opponent can fight, with how much damage it dishes out and how much damage it can absorb. With the troll in question if he was wearing the armour he would be too much of a match for a low level character. That's not to say he won't still kill you and lick your brain-pan clean.

Cheers, Jules

Hi there,

I intend to write some more detailed comments at info@auxo.co.uk like they said when you buy the product, not to put too many spoilers here.

Anyway, I'd like to drop some notes here (may contain SPOILER !):
I first tried to do it with a novice character, but it quickly became clear, that this won’t suffice. I even died twice (or rather: was unable to continue due to too much dmaage taken) with a seasoned character, as I was unable to scrape together enough points to succeed both in the various physical challenges (combat, athletics, especially #91) and to solve the lock of the bronze door (#93). I have to point out though that I completely forgot the Hero Points ! Maybe you can manage with a seasoned character then. Still, you likely won't find everthing there is to find.

Especially the mysterious lock was a bit puzzling, as RQ Deluxe does not mention several skills that are supposed to help here: Lore (any western), Culture (any western) and especially Insight. Insight is in fact mentioned several times... what is that skill ?

For me, it was not clear how often you can actually go back to the city, I think the better way to go is to demand from the very start that the mission be accomplished within x days. That way, the character can choose how often he wants to re-supply or whether he rather spends some time to heal himself with natural healing. Having played a barbarian mercenary I was unable to heal myself properly.

Anyway, it really was fun and apart from very few unclarities (the above mentioned armour - what type is it actually; the reward of #55 - is is an improvement roll or a hero point ; to name two) it is consistent and well thought out.

I do recommend it :D

Hi there,

Just to say the second adventure "Shadows Over Aralem" in the RuneQuest solo series has just been published on DriveThru http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=64485

If you've not tried playing the solo-adventures yet do yourself a favour and check these out. As well as playing them yourselves there are ideas, hooks, settings and source materials here that you could use in other campaigns and adventures.

Enjoy and let me know what you think.
