So what is the official word on SF: ACTA on PDF

This seems a little petty to me.

I bought the book and I'm actually quite happy with it. Sure It's got a folded 'errata/FAQ' page tucked in the back with some notes made next to some of the ship entries, but it's not really such a bad thing for a good game such as this.

At least they bothered to address problems within the ruleset at all!

This is a minor issue....really.

why is it petty to want a ruleset you don't have to write on? I didn't get an errata with my flames of war books, nor do it have any for my dystopian war books? I'm well aware of the work that goes into the rules, and I know mistakes happen, but would you accept a car with 3 wheels, and another dispatched later as an Errata? Also, it's the modern age, I have hundreds of books, but I played B5 CTA off my PDA, with never a hardcopy rulebook.

There is a massive amount of Dystopia errata on the Spartan website as well as a very substantial chunk of changes to FOW. With FOW, the errata/changes drive a new version every 4-5 years.

Guys, just to chip in...

Let me look into offering the PDF to those with the hardback - we have an issue in that it is a BIG file and our only sensible delivery medium would be by email. Still... let me look into it, we would have no issues about offering the PDF to those who have bought the book.

We play Impetus off our IPads with the hard backs used for leisurely perusal. This would be a nice perk.

I'd be interested in getting the PDF as I am the proud owner of the hardback rules (and also the skimpy little A5 booklet). How would this work, would we have to send a request in to Mongoose via email?

Okay, free PDF to hardback owners obviously a good idea :)

Let me figure this out - ideally, I would like to get the file size small enough to email to everyone, but that may not be possible. Give us a few days/couple of weeks, and we'll see what we can do...

Outstanding. :D

So we can start hassling you in a couple of weeks, would the end of Feb be good for you :P :

Perhaps a low-toner edition, akin to one of ADB's print-on-demand files?

(That way, a full colour upload could be kept in reserve for later sale on DriveThruRPG; which could allow for those with the book to have a "free" reference file, while not taking away from the eventual for-sale upload. Besides, if you've got the book, you'd already have the colour version...)

That would need more attention from layout and, I am afraid, we just don't have the time at the moment (Reference Cards need finishing!).

Could always have it up on DriveThruRPG and just E-mail some sort of discount code for people to enter. The code will the make it free for those that already bought a hard copy..

Matt, if you like have Will throw the file into our Mongoose-OTLG Dropbox and I'll get it knocked down into a low res PDF.

Just for the record...I wasnt trying to be rude or make anyone mad. Just discussion.

Also, I wanst accusing anyone of downloading the rules illegally. What I meant was that if it's up in PDF form by the company it just makes it exceedingly easy to pass it to others for free, and eventually it's going to wind up on free sites.

Just don't take offense...that's not my meaning.

Buy the thing from a store on the Bits and Mortar scheme...I did that yesterday and already have my PDF (thanks to Mongoose and Leisure Games both joining the scheme from the two different ends). My print book is still inbound, but I have the rules in PDF and at the same cost as purchasing the print version from Mongoose

OK it requires you having access to a store on the Bits and Mortar scheme but they are increasing in numbers. Given Mongoose are on the scheme thats the important bit for anything from them.

Well. Going to different country for that is kinda steep :) For the price of that trip I would be funding whole bunch of pdf versions...

(frankly even if there are those in Finland I would need to buy multiple books at time or it's simply cheaper to buy the pdf from drivethru)

Maybe makes easier but that's irrelevant point since it might quicken the process by whole hour or two...

Assuming there simply isn't piraticed version floating in the net BEFORE on-sale date...Plenty of that happening too.

PDF sales doesn't help piracy one jolt in any meaningful way.

OK, this I could go with. :-)

To address some up-thread comments, I wasn't trying to be petty: I just much prefer PDFs, and given that a no-frills version of the rules is included in the fleet boxes (of which I have special-ordered Feds and Klinks), I felt that I could wait, indefinitely if need be, for the main rulebook to be released electronically.

But as long as the PDF rulebook will be released free of additional charge with purchase of the HC, I will special order that as well!

Thanks, Matt!

I'd be interested in knowing if there's a way you could offer this to those of us who bought the book from Mongoose in person. My book was bought in person at Dragonmeet back in November.

I've never trusted Klingons, and I never will. I've never forgiven them....for the incomplete Errata.

So you mail order it rather than fly over :D I didnt physically walk up to the store that I got mine from, they sent it to me - to be in bits and mortar they just have to have a real walk in store. Price should be in the region of Mongoose's and gets print and PDF.
