So, there's this city, right...

I'm planning on setting my campaign around Ophid in Ralios. Primarily this is because it's location suggests that it is on the periphery of a number of different civilisations (EWF to the east over the Rockwoods, God Learners to the south, Orlanthi to the north and the remnants of the Stygian Empire. Also, it's (relative) proximity to a reawakening Dorastor holds some interesting possibilities.

I haven't found any references to Ophid in any of the material I've read - be it RQII, III or MRQ or the various bits and pieces of Gregdom I've picked up in the last 20 years. Although I'm happy to do my own things and create my own version of Glorantha I would like to be sure I haven't missed something obvious, interesting or important.

Any news from Ophid anyone?

There is some detail on Ophid in the Ralios PDF which is available from Drive Thru Rpg; this contains the stuff on Ralios outside of Safelster, which got cut from G2A for space reasons, and is to the same high standard. I thoroughly recommend it. Ophid is a nice place, if you like snakes .

Thanks for these. I'll look up the Ralios PDF (altho' I've had some problems with the DriveThru site previously). I'm intrigued about the snakes thing. Hadn't thought about snakes.

Also - what do you think "Offid" (US Eng.) or "Oafid" (UK Eng.)?

An issue of the Trade Talk magazine is about Ralios but I don't know if there is anything about Ophid.
I also remember to have read the list of all the serpent kings but can't remember where.

I've read the Ralios PDF and am now clear about the snakes. I think we're going to move. Streets alive with serpents biting people was not what I had in mind. That said maybe there's a St Patrick style HeroQuest in here somewhere...

May be you can also find useful information in the book "Glorantha" for the Hero Wars system (thouygh this book doesn't contain any game mechanics, i.e. only information) and the Glorantha boxed set (from Avalon Hill) which also included almost only game info rather that game mechanics.

I think Osentalka is right that Ophid hasn't been previously detailed. Ormsland in the 3rd Age is a wilderness with little in the way of human habitation, IIRC (my non-MRG Glorantha stuff is inacessible right now). Almost my first thought on looking at the Ralios map was "Ooh, cities in Ormsland!". I assume they are due to get trashed in the coming conflagration, possibly by the dragonewts themselves as overspill from the Dragonkill.

Just coming back on this thread because I retrieve an ancient text from Greg Stafford about The Kings of Seshnela which mentions several serpentine king (with tails instead of legs, such as Ylream son of Froalar (the latter one being the 1st king coming from Brithos).

Are there any link between Ralios and Seshnela (which is just south of Ralios)?
