So, in Conan, what are you?

I like many combinations...
Vanir Barbarian or Pirate (Viking type! REH dis not day anything about viking-like Vanirs, later writers supposed that Vanirs did not regularly sail the sea, but I still feel that a viking-like culture in the Hyborean Age would be fine... )
Vendhyan Noble/Scholar (but with quite a martial attitude)
Turanian Soldier/Thief (not Subotai but a real civilized Turanian!)
Kothic Soldier/Thief (but not of a "high Dex" type...more a bandit-brute with high STR)

Nice approach with the combination's. Adds some flair and depth without going into Power Gaming a PC build really especially when you can tie it back to setting examples.

Stygian Scholar ftw! Threw in a coupla levels of Soldier to beef him up but it really set me back in the sorcerery dept though now at 7th level (scholar 4th) he is finally getting some good shit...

I have a few other types I'd like to try out, especially a barbarian/thief that proves the quarterstaff is the best weapon in the game.

Hmm, Interesting I haven't seen to many people multiclass a spell caster. They seem to run for the Pirate side of things with no issues though. May have to try a multiclass scholar myself.

- Valencio, the Gorgeous Idiot. Zingaran tempter/noble, who is a complete idiot but extremely charismatic, handsome and very good in social situations. Thus people assume him to be very good at pretty much everything, while he is really good only in posing and bullshitting. Might turn out to be a comical sidekick in other words.

As played by Micheal Kelso!

I'm the GM but I would love to play a Ghnata nomad/barbarian. Maybe just barbarian, or just nomad. I would love to swing my scimitar and do some decaptations :)

I would like to play an imoral soldier too, like a soldier that is always looking for a bribe or some money to teach someone a lesson. That would be a soldier/thief, from a more civilized country, probaly an Aquilonian.

The third character I would like to play is a Northern barbarian, drunk brawler. Someone whit great despite for life, and he thinks everyone is worthless. So he is always dinking and getting in to a punch fight.

Feeling awfully lonely in my Gunderman Pike Soldier role. :D Still, Pirates and Nomads, followed by Barbarians, with the lone Tempter coming in on the heels.

Overall though, the mix is looking VERY Robert E. Howard - ish as I expected, and I really like those Multiclass Scholar ideas as well. Definitely some potential there.

Not seeing, any Stygians really. I would thing there could be a few angles taken that direction.

Nordheimir Barbarian/Pirate or 'Reaver' for me.

dont feel so bad Rex one of the players in my game is a Gunderland soldier.

So, now, what would be a characther you would play NOT choosing a favoured class, aka no bonus feat for you powergamer :)? For my part, either Gunderman barbarian, Stygian, Hyrkanian or Shemite thief. Also Hyrkanian or Shemite noble. Also Nordheimer Soldier seem really cool too.

I feel Soldier and Thief are the most playable character if you take a non-favoured class. Soldier still get lots a bunch of feat, and thief is good enough to go without bonus feat. Also I think they are the only class that are not prohibited for any race.

Shemite Noble has some possibilities. Nordheimer Tempter. :D

By the book Souther Black Kingdom doesn't have borderer as a favoured class, so I would play that. But in my games I've made borderer a favoured class for the jungle folks.

Hum, i guess it is you're choice, but I'm not sure it is a so great idea. From the borderer description, Borderer are civilised folk from civilised kingdom pushing ther border. Pict, cimmerian, Southern black kinsmen, Nordheimer they are barbarian. They are not civilised. Some could be borderer, but it is not their favoured class. I mean, why give them Borderer as a FC and not give it too cimmerian, himelian or other? Why not give Soldier too, since they are warlike poeple? You get the idea

The information on restricted and favoured classes is somewhat contradictory. For instance, Nordheimers get Noble as a prohibited class (which looks quite stupid to me anyway...) but the Hyboria's books and Faith & Fervour both state that only Nordheimers of noble birth can become Volvas or attain other kind of high religious status...

Well I don't think Nordheimer have landed nobility do they?

One of the book is clearly wrong here, question is wich one... I'm sure Vincent could answer this :)

The rulebook was written by Ian Sturrock and the Hyboria's and F&F by Vincent Darlage. Different authors have surely different points of view...

In fact Treeplanter I have adopted borderer as a favoured class for every place barbarian is a favoured class. I guess I don't see borderers as civilised. But again I have done some other small modifications to my game. Concerning the borderer I have replaced all the combat styles for bonus feats, and every bonus feat in my campaing is never limited to a list.

I mentioned Nordheimer Tempter to a few of the Players ........

That game turned out to be....though funny.....in a way.....truly terrifying on a certain level. *shudder* Kind of like Erik the Viking meets Robin Hood Men in Tights.

Anybody else on board with me and my Gunderman Pike Soldier?

Yes. A thousand times yes.

I just have a Gunderman pike soldier NPC in my group, and every single PC I have looks up to him as the backbone of any solid skirmish. They depend on him to watch their backs and make sure they don't get caught off-guard.

In my game I have...

A Tauran Borderer 2/Barbarian 1/Thief 1 PC,
A Zingaran Pirate 2/Soldier 2 PC,
A Vanir Barbarian 4 PC,
A Cimmerian Barbarian 4 NPC,
A Gunderman Soldier 3/Thief 1 NPC,
A Zingaran Thief 3/Soldier 1 NPC,
An Aesir Barbarian 4 NPC,
A Pic Barbarian 4 NPC,
A Stygian Sorceress 4 NPC.

They were all slaves on a slaveship... Slaveship got caught in a nasty storm... They got stuck on a small island together... Had to fight some Cthulhu-esque Deep Ones and run away on a pirate ship as an especially big Deep One was rising from the waves, clutching an enormous pillar of stone.

They've created a blood bond between all nine of them, and they have an Alleigance towards their "Blood Family". And up until now, this is a kick-ass game.
