sneak att/ flat footed

Allowing the sneak attack if a character can do multiple attacks seems fine with me, it really shouldn't happen very often.

True, but with an 8th level Thief being necessary to accomplish it, the return (the damage) balances with the mitigating circumstances. If the Thief is surrounded by five guys and pops out of a foxhole from hiding to stab two of those five targets in their legs, he's still going to be surrounded and the first two guys had better be dead or everyone in the enemy group is getting a big bonus to hit him in the next round.

In D&D though it's huge. In Conan all weapons do lots of damage so a lightly or unarmored Thief is really asking for trouble if he get's hit. In D&D, with AC of 20+and all that, multiple sneak attacks, even at the reduced damage those weapons deal, is a lot more than I'd thought originally. We've been doing it wrong since 3.0.

Looking at all of the factors in Conan, however, it's not over powering.

I think The only way the thief can do a sneak attack more than once in a single round once the battle has stared (after the first round) is if he had the feats “greater feint” and “whirlwind attack”; that means he needs to have devoted quite a few feats to cover the prerequisites and also be of a high level too to fulfill the BAB prerequisite

I thought so too, but pg177 says otherwise. All a thief needs is for his target to be denied Parry and Dodge. That can be under a lot of circumstances, and the paragraph doesn't state that a Full Attack is necessary. An 8th level Thief, therefore, can get 2 Sneak Attacks at an opponent so disabled.

Yep,

SetWorshiper posted a scenario (page 1 of this thread) where an 8th level thief could get 4 sneakattacks.

But that is just round 1. After that, the thief's life expectancy drops significantly.

Yeah, wielding dual weapons.

Like you say, though, if there's that many enemies to attack, then he'd better kill them all or he's gonna get clobbered...

Greater feint will provide a sneak attack against each of the feinted opponents, but this will allow a thief to sneak attack more than once a single opponent:

Quick draw two weapon bluff, it`s a combat maneuver from Hyboria`s Fiercest. Comes at higher levels though, with a prerequisite of BAB+12, and to be able to attack nore thn once with your off hand, you`ll need improved two weapon combat as well. You won`t get you your full range of attacks, but all those you can deliver with your off hand weapon.
