Skill Checks & Auto-Fail

Hi,
In my 2nd ed game today, a player rolled a 2 on a skill check, but with his bonuses the total was still a success.
Another player swore he read somewhere that a natural 2 is an auto-fail, but we couldn't find it in the book.
Is it? If so, what page is it on?

Only place I can find that is during character creation, for the Survival roll. It appears no where else in the rules.

Survival
Each career has a survival roll. If you fail this roll, you must then roll on the Mishap Table. This mishap will force you to leave the career immediately unless otherwise stated. You will also lose the Benefit roll for the current term. A natural 2 on the survival roll is always a failure.

They must have stripped all references to "natural 2 == automatic fail" and "natural 12 == automatic success" for task checks at some point. I think they meant to remove that one from the book as well, but forgot.
