Silly fighter base question

Hello,

I've got a question that might seem quite silly, but it's really bugging me.

Basically, I'd like to base my fighters like this guy here, Protoman-swe I think (hope the url works ...), only three to a base :

But I just can't find any suitable bases.
I checked most local stores around here, and surfed the net a bit, I can only find small slotted bases or big flying bases, or various sizes of square or rectangular, slotted or not slotted bases, even plenty of textured bases of various sizes and shapes, but no small, simple, basic round base.
Either I'm not looking at the right places, or there's some sort of conspiracy to hide them from me ...

Would anybody here point me toward a site selling them, or others like them ?

Thanks,
Gwen

I use round wood disks from craft stores with a metal washer on the bottom to give them some weight and so I can store them in a box with magnetic tape on the bottom.

GW also sells bases, but I would use the small plastic flying bases as they are at least around 1" in diameter (similar size as the hex bases). Puting 3 fighters on a smaller base then the fighters were intended to be used on just smacks of cheeze.

This is why I used gw's base, the footprint is just about the same as the hex base. I bulk bought the triangles from GF 9. Even with the cost of the gw bases, and the triangles, it still worked out cheaper than going six to a base.

Yes, I know, I've got the kotha flight facing the wrong way. Blame the old online cataloge.

Hello,

@Jaramid : thanks for the links. I found a few like that, but I don't like them, might have to fall back on those though ...

@Star ranger : I'll look into it, thanks

@Joe dracos & Banichi : I can't find those in the local stores, there's only the big ones.
Are those the same as these : http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1480042&prodId=prod1590003 ?

I hesitated to buy a sample of those, they look rather big to me, but I don't know if it's the photo or the base ...

@Joe dracos : what is cheeze ?? And I don't understand about the base size, the flying bases of the small ships (Chronos and such) seem about the same size as the fighter bases to me ?

@Mikelosaurus : alas, it's more likely I'll squirrel them away in my parts and bits box ...

Thanks for the answers,
Gwen

He means that if the bases take less space than the original you would be able to fit more fighters in same area and ergo boost their power. Therefore you would gain advantage over those using official bases.

Therefore if you wish to use alternative bases it's important(atleast if you plan to play in tournaments etc) to ensure that you get at maximum same amount of fighters in range as with official bases and no more.

Unfortunately they are not the same size. The small base on the Chronos can fit inside the Hex base. The perimiter of the circular base should be (at least) able to match all 6 of the Hex bases sides.

@tneva82 and Joe_Dracos : I just checked : I got two sizes for my Chronos bases, one is effectively smaller than the fighter base by 2 millimeters, the other is the same size. This explains that : not talking about the same thing.

@Joe_Dracos : ok, I'll try a sample of those.

Thanks,
Gwen

Another option is the MDF bases that East Riding Miniatures produce. They do 25mm square ones (same size as the fighter counters).

For a topper you could try Brigades, that's what im using (on small GW flight bases)

Well i am using as others in my gaming club a 30 mm / 1.2 inch wooden base can usualy be found in craft stores. And just regular paper clipps that i cut into difrent lenghts.

Ah the paperclip, one of the most useful pieces of modelling material to be found, apart from the occasional aluminium can.
