Let's say that a fighter is defined by acceleration and cockpittization.

Which limits it to a primary hull of fifty tonnes, in accordance to High Guard.

Attach a weapon pod of, say, two hundred tonnes, complete with docking clamp, to it.

Install medium bay weapon system in said two hundred tonne weapon pod.

Adding a weapon pod 4 times the size of the fighter would most likely negate the acceleration that permitted it the definition of fighter 🙂

There is one really good reason to use robots in Traveller...

Property damage instead of murder.

Unlike say D&D where your party of adventures can slaughter monsters and take their stuff, before returning to sell their bloodstained loot and then celebrate at the tavern, Travellers might find themselves in legal bother if they gun down people and blow up ships.

However replace sophots with robots, and what might be murder or manslaughter becomes criminal property damage instead.

Just an off-cuff thought.

Robot pilots are no more vulnerable to having those Comms hacked than a sophont pilot. The only way they differ is if you can hack the robot itself but for that you need access to its internal data network, not its external data interface.
This tells me you know nothing about cybersecurity and computers. And Input which any communication is a form of input is a potential threat for hacking.

I think one thing only lightly touched on in this portion of the thread is the difference between Strategic Hacking and Tactical Hacking.

Strategically everything can be hacked, implanted with what ever to bring to life in the future to wreck havoc.

Tactically in the middle of a battle, I do think the time scale makes it extremely difficult to hack into the battle system of any military ship. Also with a swarm of fighters the rules seem to me to indicate you are hacking 1 individual ship/control so perhaps the attempt should be spent going after the battle ship instead of one of the 50 fighters zooming around.
