We were able to make the impossible happen, test out two rare Gyrojet rocket guns. Remarkably, instead of just taking one or two shots, we were able to take 4 shots. We were able to learn a lot with these limited test still.

The Inkunzi PAW (Personal Assault Weapon) is a 20mm shoulder fired semiautomatic grenade launcher designed by Tony Neophytou (and previously known as the Neopup). It is a creative and very interesting weapon system, both from a mechanical perspective and also from a question of practical application.

The PAW has a 6-round detachable rotary magazine, and an effective range of 1000m for area targets and 600m for point targets. Its purpose is to give the individual soldier an explosive area-effect weapon that fires like a rifle. To this end, the ammunition has been developed to give a muzzle velocity of 1000fps (310m/s), giving it a far flatter trajectory and shorter flight time than a 40mm grenade, either low pressure or high. It allows rapid repeat shots, rapid reloading, and easy target transition. The high muzzle velocity (for a grenade launcher) makes range estimation and engagement of moving targets much simpler than with the rainbow-like trajectory of 40mm systems. For specialized modern applications like guarding against one or more vehicle suicide bombs, fast-moving pirate skiffs, it seems extremely compelling. That utility extends to typical targets as well, like light armored vehicles, buildings, gun emplacements, and even something as simply as a patch of brush with an enemy hiding within somewhere. Typical small arms fire requires a substantial expenditure of ammunition for targets like those, while an explosive 20mm projectile can neutralize them in one or two rounds, without the need for a direct hit. The lethal radius of a 20mm HEI shell is between 6 and 18 feet (2m - 6m) depending on who you ask. That's a significant margin of error.

Mechanically, the PAW is a simple system to disassemble, and it uses a quite clever inertial locking system which is clean and reliable. The unique layout with the grip on the right side is done to accommodate the hydraulic recoil system, which allows the action to slide back into the stock assembly on each shot. This absorbs much of the recoil and spreads its effect out on the shooter, making it not unpleasant to shoot. An easy stowage feature allows the gun to be locked in its compressed configuration, shortening it for transit and also offering a way for the gun to be carried with a round chambered and ready to use, but with the trigger safely disconnected to prevent accidental firing for troops in armored vehicles or helicopters.

Compared to the American XM-25, the PAW strips away the overcomplications of laser designation and complex projectile fusing, which are arguably not really necessary anyway. It offers a simple and effective system, with tremendous firepower as well as suppression capability (nothing says go away quite like rapid fire explosives). It does this with a larger magazine and more compact and lighter weight design, no less.

It is rare to find a truly unique and innovative firearm these days, but that is exactly what Tony Neophytou has done here. The design is elegant in its simplicity, and well refined. It truly offers a unique set of capabilities - while it has been purchased in limited numbers by several smaller militaries, I hope to see it given serious consideration by some first-tier forces, as I think it has tremendous potential.

Overview[edit]
The PAW-20 is a hand-held, semi-automatic grenade launcher that fires a 20 mm point detonating round. It holds six rounds in a detachable rotary magazine, with an effective range of 300–400 meters. It was designed mainly as an anti-personnel grenade launcher for use against opposition closely grouped together or behind light cover. However, it is also compatible with less-than-lethal ammunition. The PAW-20 is in direct competition with the more complicated and expensive joint American-German XM25 CDTE.[citation needed]
The PAW-20 has attracted some criticism due to the location of the ejection port; these allegations have largely been proven false, as the spent casings are ejected no closer to the operator's face than in a conventional assault rifle being fired from the left hand. Due to the unique location of the pistol grip on the side of the weapon, it can be fired from the left shoulder for a right-handed operator by simply placing the butt on the left shoulder, with no hand swapping necessary.
This allows the user the advantage of being able to fire from around or under cover, with little time required to change the grip on the weapon. The right-handed location of the pistol grip also allows the weapon to recoil unimpeded into the shoulder of the operator, allowing for a much more manageable recoil than most weapons of this class. Moreover, the weapon uses the recoil to operate, instead of more traditional gas operated systems and is an interesting example of an inertial operated weapon.[3]
20x42 mm cartridge[edit]
The 20x42 mm cartridge was specifically developed for the PAW-20 by Denel PMP, decreasing the overall weight and size of the weapon, and enabling it to hold more rounds in the magazine.[clarification needed] It has a muzzle velocity of 310 m/s (1,000 ft/s), and a much flatter trajectory than the more common 40mm grenade launcher round. A number of less-than-lethal rounds are also available for the PAW-20.[4]

CHINA has developed a powerful new laser assault rifle that can obliterate a target from nearly a kilometre away, researchers claim.
According to Chinese researchers, the ZKZM-500 laser assault rifle can “instantly carbonise” human skin and tissues, set a person on fire and make them feel “pain beyond endurance”.
A laser weapons scientist said the device was able to “burn through clothes in a split second … If the fabric is flammable, the whole person will be set on fire”, the South China Morning Post reports.
The weapon weighs three kilos, about the same as an AK-47, and has a range of 800 metres that can be mounted on vehicles.
The report compares the weapon to something out of Star Wars, describing a silent invisible beam of energy powerful enough to pass through windows.
The laser is currently classified as “nonlethal”, but its sniper-like range could prove its greatest asset, with the scientists who worked on it already claiming it’s ready for mass production due to its small size. Each weapon would be produced at a cost of 100,000 yuan ($AU20,405).
The researchers said its invisible frequency and the fact that it produces no sound gives the advantage of no one knowing where the attack came from.
“It will look like an accident,” the researchers said.
The weapon is said to be powered by a rechargeable lithium battery, and can fire over 1000 shots per charge, lasting no more than two seconds each.

Reportedly, the Chinese are trying out their laser pointers in Djibouti, targets being American planes.

Presumably, they will feel very entitled in doing that in the South China Sea.
 
This man surpasses Tesla by inventing an electric car that never needs charging

Recent reports have revealed that over 5,000 inventions as of 2014 are currently under secrecy orders initiated by the ISA.

In light of this potential suppression, there is some promising news. This good news has been revealed concerning Sangulani Chikumbutso, a Zimbabwean who has created an electric powered car and a hybrid helicopter among other products through his company SAITH Technologies. This development is notable because the production of the automobile is done via electromagnetic waves and radio frequencies. This is significant because the car does not need a charge.

As his website explains:

“By revealing undisclosed substance (industry secreted) to radio wavelengths, the Eco-friendly power generator has the capacity to funnel the power generated into function electrical energy. His assertion is always that he has moved past the rules of preservation of energy as generally comprehended as equivalent shift of energy from a single form to a different one proclaiming that this kind of “discovery” displays the application of basic gel battery packs in series of 220 volts generating a greater output in electrical power (500,000 Watts). We aren’t certain how this claim could be allayed, therefore we wish at some discussion board researchers will put the statements to test.”

The United States Government has recently given Chikumbutso a new home in California to work on his project. Some believe this was done by the US Government in order to control this type of invention.

The concept of an electric car has been around longer than people think. It is not uncommon for such technological innovation to take much more time than people anticipate in terms of taking off and being widely accepted and implemented into society. In an industry that is run by oil-powered vehicles, it hard to get the public to take notice if you are attempting to put an electric car on the market.

The technologies needed for electric cars are often under monopolies controlled by huge corporations who want to control the clean energy market if it takes off in the future. Many believe that eventually, it will be illegal to make a car that runs on oil, therefore forcing a market of clean energy automobiles.

Many believe similar inventions have never seen the light of day due to the “Invention Secrecy Act” (ISA) of 1951, which states that patent applications on new inventions could be held secret if disclosure is determined to be potentially detrimental for society. One has to wonder if this act has led to the suppression of revolutionary inventions.

It would be faster. But if transportation costs are high it might make more sense to the accountants to send the tech to create shelters onsite from local materials than ship a bunch of prefabs. (Lunar soil can be used to make a decent concrete as I recall.) Or there could be a combination of both approaches.
 
It's probably circumstantial.

A tent like structure is less permanent and less impact on the environment; might also be faster to set up.

I'm going with supposition that if only for cost reasons, wheeled vehicles are still going to be used, though the wheel itself may be reinvented.
