Advanced Combat Rifle
A progressive development of the assault rifle, the advanced combat rifle fires either a NINE millimetre, FIVE gram high explosive bullet at nine hundred metres per second, or a NINE/SIX millimetre, three gram discarding sabot bullet at twelve hundred metres per second. A magazine containing twenty rounds is inserted into the underside of the weapon behind the pistol grip. Reloading takes one combat round, during which the firer is treated as evading. The weapon may fired either automatically or semiautomatically (as with the assault rifle).
Standard equipment includes an electronic battlefield sight, incorporating both light amplification and passive infra red, visual magnification, and a laser rangefinder which may also be used as a target painting device. The weapon is also gyroscopically stabilized during firing. A sling is provided, and the muzzle of the rifle includes an integral flash suppressor and adaptor for launching a forty millimetre Rocket Assisted Multipurpose shoot through grenade (see below).
Length, exclusive of grenade: seven hundred fifty millimetres. Weight, unloaded: thirty five hundred grammes (loaded magazine weighs five grammes). Base price: One thousand Credit Imperiale (loaded High Explosive Magazine twenty CrImps, Loaded Discarding Sabot magazine twenty five CrImps.
Note, due to the high per round cost, solid slug ammunition is often manufactured locally, at a base price of fifteen CrImps per magazine. When firing slug ammunition, use the range modifiers of the Advanced Combat Rifle and the target modifiers and damage levels of the assault rifle. Extreme range, one thousand metres. Technological level ten.
Advanced combat rifles fire a variety of caseless ammunition in seven or nine millimetres. The standard models feature gyrostabilization, laser sights, Heads Up Display sights, and a Rocket Assisted Multipurpose grenade hardpoint.
Advanced Combat Rifle, Heavy (technological level ten): A progressive development of the assault rifle, the heavy Advanced Combat Rifle uses advanced propellants and a large calibre (nine millimetre) round to deal out major damage. The heavy Advanced Combat Rifle is somewhat bulkier than the light version but only very slightly longer. It comes with an integral singleshot Rocket Propelled Multipurpose grenade launcher. Either the rifle or the launcher may be fired each round. The rifle may use semi automatic, burst fire or full automatic mode and is fed from a fifty round magazine. Reloading a grenade or changing a magazine takes a minor action. Heavy Advanced Combat Rifle ammunition is not compatible with other weapons except support versions of the same family.
Normal nine millimetre Advanced Combat Rifle ammunition has a semi armour piercing effect, ignoring up to two points of armour. Discarding Sabot Armour Piercing rounds have a full armour piercing effect and ignore the first four points of armour they encounter.
Using larger calibre rounds, the heavy advanced combat rifle is functionally similar to its smaller counterpart and hits harder, but has a lower rate of fire and requires a strong user to handle the recoil. Standard equipment includes an electronic battlefield sight, incorporating both light amplification and passive infra red, visual magnification, and a laser rangefinder which may also be used as a target painting device. The weapon is also gyroscopically stabilised during firing. A sling is provided, and the muzzle of the rifle includes an integral flash suppressor and adaptor for launching a forty millimetre Rocket Assisted Multipurpose shoot through grenade.
