Ship Design Philosophy

Spaceships: Assault Ball

10. At technological level ten, you have access to manoeuvre drive factor three.

11. That's at default one and one twentieth tonne, at two and one tenth megastarbux, and requires ten and a half power points.

12. Since it's for a (planetary) assault, probably prefer two single one tonne turrets, to get maximum coverage.

13. Since the turrets are meant for three weapon systems, there's still space for either extra ordnance, vehicle weapons upto a third of a tonne (assuming half a tonne for a work station), or some form of sensor equipment.

14. Budgetted variant could be larger, so you get twenty percent more volume in those turrets.

15. You could use the two firmpoints to install a five tonne barbette instead.

16. The budgetted variant of the barbette could be six tonnes.

17. Logic indicates that regardless of the explanation that one or five tonnes represents internal volume, these aren't bays, so some of that volume has to be external.

18. And since a ship's configuration is frozen, as well as the hull tonnage, once you design in a turret or a barbette, that rather final.

19. Especially on a smallcraft.

Starwarships: Star Wars: Inside the Resurgent Class Star Destroyer

A technical 3D animation for the Resurgent Class Star Destroyer of the First Order.

Narrated by Chris Beech. Enjoy!

While its size evokes the command ships of the Empire, the Finalizer's design recalls those of Republic-era capital ships from the Clone Wars.

Its dorsal flight deck, side hangars, and prominent keel are similar to elements of the Venator-class Star Destroyer, reflecting a renewed appreciation among First

The Finalizer can launch its full complement of starfighters and assault ships much more quickly than its predecessors in the Imperial Navy could.

The First Order lacks the resources to build huge numbers of massive capital ships like those that once served the Emperor. But the lessons of Imperial power have not been lost on the First Order's ship designers.

The Finalizer is a devastating weapons platform and highly effective carrier, but it is also a symbol of the new regime's power, designed to recall the era when Imperial might be at its greatest and inspire awe in the First Order's enemies.

Other Imperial-era design flaws have also been rectified--the need for a better-protected command bridge with increased redundancy in command and control systems was a hard lesson learned from the loss of the Executor at the Battle of Endor.

1. Docking claw.

2. Improved variant; almost feels like two hulls sandwiched together, one being a flight deck.

Starwarships: Star Wars: How Big is the Supremacy?

Here is a technical 3D animation for the Supremacy-Mega-class Star Dreadnought. Enjoy!

A capital ship built on a nearly unimaginable scale, the Supremacy is a vast flying wing more than 60 kilometers wide.

In addition to being a warship with enormous firepower, it serves Supreme Leader Snoke and the First Order as its mobile capital-star destroyer. Its vast interior houses army training grounds, shipyards, production lines, and R&D labs.

It is the largest and most impressive starship ever built, even outclassing the Executor-class Star Dreadnought of the Galactic Empire. The Supremacy's only rivals are the Death Star superweapons and the planetary-scaled engineering project that created Starkiller Base.

Because the Supremacy serves as a mobile capital for the First Order, it is equipped with standard capital features such as shipyards. This makes the ship a truly formidable part of the First Order simply because it can produce extra supplies and resources for its crew and supporting ships.
The true capabilities of the Supremacy, however, are showcased in its lethal weapons and abilities. It can track other ships through hyperspace to ensure there is no escape. Only the Death Stars and Starkiller Base rivaled its power. The mighty ship was destroyed in two when the Raddus went into hyperspace along a path that passed through the Supremacy.

Starwarships: Five Space Warfare Tactics That Make No Sense

Space battles seem to work quite a bit differently depending on the alternate reality in which you find yourself. That said, I do think there are some tactics though, that should generally be avoided.

1. How about engaging the tractor beam so that the target can't get away, then ramming it, and boarding it through the hole in the hull?

2. If your initial ramming attempt misses, you harpoon the the other ship, and spin it.

3. In the meantime, drones start pimping out a fuel oxygen mixture in the midst of the enemy fleet, then igniting it.

Starwarships: Star Trek: Inside the USS Voyager Deck 1-15

This is an update and completed animation of Enterprise USS Voyager, which will cover decks 1-15. There are many changes made including a more detailed and texture 3D model of Voyager by Alex Kleem. It will be the most comprehensive and detailed animation to date of the 24th century Federation Intrepid-class starship operated by Starfleet.

The USS Voyager was a Federation Intrepid-class starship operated by Starfleet during the 24 century. It was the eleventh Federation ship to bear the name Voyager with this registry.
Although only 345 meters long, about roughly half the size of the U.S.S. Enterprise -D, Voyager is more technologically advanced than previous Starfleet vessels.

The 15-deck (257 rooms), 700,000-metric-ton Voyager was originally built at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards and launched from Earth Station McKinley.

The vessel was capable of holding 150 crew members and up to 350 people in a short period of time. Superbly equipped for exploration and research, Voyager has an equally impressive array of defensive and offensive weapons, making it ready for action.

1. Variable geometry pylons - the drives are on hinges, and I think this feature would only work for us in terms of an atmosphere landing.

2. Shuttle in a hull niche.

3. Emergency life support - I don't recall that redundancy in our spacecraft.

4. I'm somewhat surprised no interstellar navy ever bothered to build really large torpedoes.

1. Because space is at a premium, our ships may be lacking briefing rooms.

2. One issue with decentralized computing, may be it could be easier to hack the ship's computer.

3. Discovered I rather like bok choy; or at least, finally identified the ingredient.

4. Not to sure why you would need a weapons analysis lab, at least in Traveller.

I've never played the game, though I have watched some of the Youtube clips.

As such, upto this point, I've liked the series and if it diverts from game canon, I wouldn't really know, and it hasn't distracted from my enjoyment of the show.

Starwarships: Star Wars vs Star Trek: USS Enterprise-D vs Imperial II Star Destroyer

In this animation, the Federation's USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) takes on the Empire's Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer. Can the Star Trek universe pull out a victory against their bitter Star Wars rivals?

The Imperial II Star Destroyer is one of the most famous ships in the Star Wars universe, and its wedge-shaped design struck fear in the hearts of countless Rebels. On the other side, the USS Enterprise-D featured most prominently in Star Trek The Next Generation, was a warship also outfitted for science and exploration.

Some of the key differences between Star Trek and Star Wars is that Star Trek is science fiction while Star Wars is a science fantasy. Star Trek focuses on technology and its possibilities while Star Wars is centered on a magical force, Jedi knight, and a very large capital ship.

Spaceships: Fell from Space and Stayed Alive | Classified Incident of 1975

According to official data, the Soviet Soyuz 18 spacecraft set off on May 24, 1975. There were two cosmonauts in the crew: Vitaly Sevastyanov and Pyotr Klimuk. The ship docked to the Salyut 4 orbital station. The crew stayed on board for two months. On July 26, the astronauts returned safely to earth, and it was possible to put an end to this.

Starwarships: Task Orientated

Anti aircraft - anti smallcraft

Air defence - anti missile

Anti submarine - hard to detect spacecraft, so stealthed, system defence boats lying doggo in gas giant atmosphere, possibly mines

Anti mine - (space) mine detection and neutralization

Guided missile - missile and/or torpedo

Assault - troop transporter carrier

Attack - close quarter starwarship

Bombardment - planetary bombardment

Arsenal - long ranged combat starwarship

Starwarships: Task Orientated

Strike - short engagement time

Collier - ordnance transport

Armoured - two thirds plus available hull armour factor

Fleet - minimum performance to keep up with the line of battle

Close escort - going by the current rule set, a spacecraft that can integrate itself into the defense net of the spacecraft it's dedicated to protect

Light - comparatively lower rated primary armament and hull armour

Heavy - comparatively mainstream armament and armour

Starwarships: (S)crewed

Going by the current rules set, you'd think that most navies wouldn't bother to build any starwarships between one to five kilotonnes, since they can cut their crews by two thirds.

They could also use the Ship Automation rules in the Traveller Companion to cut down on crews, as well as the Virtual Crew and Virtual Gunner from Highguard
