Can shadows phase off into hyperspace and then return to the battle later on in a differant place in the battle??

Can Shadow ships can fire on the turn they fade out??

thanks in advance.

Nope, once they initiate Jump Point (or fade out). They are gone, removed off the table!

More impressive to my mind is that they don't designate the incoming jump point (IIRC). I'm still waiting to see a fully active shadow ship appear behind an enemy ship and rip into it when the shadow opponent thinks he's safe. Hell, I'd be willing to be the shadow opponent just to see someone pull off the tactic well, in my local group.

We did try one game at Dunfermline where we allowed Shadows to phase in and out- repeatedly leave and return to the table- just to see how much of a difference it would make.
We are all now thoroughly in agreement with the rule that it isn't allowed. Especially with the old turret arc on the shadow ship. White Stars still have a chance, ships with 2/45 might be able to come about to bring weapons to bear, old EA with decent all round firepower might not get utterly crisped, but most races get backshot to bits with repeated surprise attacks, without doing much of anything in return.

Yes..the fact that there's no acual jump point involved in the initiate jump point order makes them scary as hell.....The best shadow game I've seen was an uber-ambush scenario (war priority, pre-armageddon, I forget how many points) where a war point's worth of shadow fighters phased out of hyperspace right in the middle of a tightly-packed brakiri fleet, and didn't even miss their free shot by doing so. You can pretty much guess what happened there.

(Hint - lots of floating green-and-yellow debris)

we had this argued out before a ambush scenario. We said no, and all hail the vree's for ripping the shadows a new one. As the foolish shadows tried to take down the Narn :-)
the Fun bit is watching an injured crab open a jump point (ok, prepare to phase, whatever), then dumping an ion mine on it so it can't run away, m'wah hahahahahahahha
