Secrets of the Ancients hardback mising something?

Is it just me or is part 6: Secret of the Ancients missing altogether from the printed book? Did I get a goofy copy or something? The chapters are numbered 1-10 in the table of contents but chapter one is actually chapter 0 the campaign primer and then there are 9 campaign segments with 1 starting as chapter 2 in the book. Chapter 5 is 6 in the book and then and 7 is still 7 but 6 in the campaign doesn't seem to appear anywhere in the book.

anybody else notice this?

??????????

Well from looking at my copy, we're missing both the deck plans and the Alahir stat block from "Homecoming"

Lots of stuff at the end of "The Hunt"

Stuff from the lower decksection of "THe Descent"

Yup, Secret of the Ancients is missing!!!

Not good from a £30 produce I already had for free, I'll be emailing Matt shortly

You know, its kinda odd that the more we get into the digitized age of books, the more errors we have in hard copies. :?

Or is it just me? :?

At least that seams to be what I've noticed. (mega traveller is an exception), or perhaps no one still has the skills or training of a good editor anymore??
:?

I don't know I realized something was amiss as soon as I looked at the table of contents and saw that there was only 10 chapters including the primer. Seems like anybody proofreading this would catch the error immediately.

God almighty another Mongoose home goal. Why do they keep doing this? Cant buy as thing from them these days. I wish they would just give up the Traveller license to someone else, they are crucifying it. They really are worse than useless, if I did what they do I would be sacked.

This is why I wait 3+ months to buy anything. So I am very glad I haven't bought this yet, I almost did get it a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully I decided I shouldn't spend money on it yet with Christmas expenditures still unknown.

Seems a bit extreme. I for one love what they are doing with Traveller as it is allot more than anybody else has done for awhile and for the most part there isn't much I haven't liked. I just am beginning to think they need some help in QC.

Well, whatever Matt answers, this will not be helpful for
Mongoose's already somewhat tarnished reputation. If the
material was intentionally deleted, this should have been
announced in advance, because now people tend to expect
the paid version to contain at least the same material as the
free version and are therefore likely to react with disappoint-
ment (or worse, see above). And if it was not intentionally
deleted, this is an almost epic fail.

I don't see how they could intentionally delete what I consider the big reveal chapter and the namesake one at that.

Then again I don't see how you could accidentally leave out and entire $23 page chapter AND mysteriously miss write the table of contents to accommodate.

I don't know. I mean I already have the whole thing for free I buy books for a specific reason and this is one I was anticipating for a long time.

Now I just look at it as flawed.

This was on my Christmas list - but no more.

I haven't bought a new Mongoose book in hard copy since the Traveller core book given my experiene based concerns about the lack of consistent quality assurance and proofreading in previous Mongoose books.

I was just about over these concerns; and then....

This is one of the reasons I've stopped buying any MgT books until I can look at them in the bookstore. I've been burned one too many times by their poor quality control.

Though my local hobby store has been dragging their feet to get into the Bits&Mortar program, so now I may be buying mail-order.

(sigh) It's not like QC is rocket science. Maybe we should take up a nickel and dime collection for MgT reviewers so they can print this stuff out and, I dunno, count pages... look for missing things like indexes (or worse, finding things like High Guard index as the Mercenary one).

One would think that after being very generous and replacing books and giving out free ones that they'd realize its cheaper to do QC up-front???

I'm very worried now for the Vehicle handbook. It's bad enough I have to buy a new book to replace two broken ones... but having to worry about them screwing this one up to. Oy!

It seems there was already a problem in the original free
campaign. If you take a look at the first paragraph of the
Section 7 ("The Death of Grandfather"), it includes this
sentence:
In Section 6: Otherworld, the characters experienced a
flashback to the glory days of the Ancient Empire, while
Grandfather probed their minds.
However, Section 6 is "The Secret of the Ancients", the
part which now seems to be missing, not "Otherworld",
which is Section 5.

So, whoever wrote the introduction to Section 7 already
"jumped over" the actual Section 6, and therefore con-
nected his Section 7 to Section 5 instead of Section 6.

I keep waiting for some official response.
:?
I understand that errors can occur in a small company, but this is very unfortunate. I love Mongoose and I love their contribution to Traveller. I think their version of the rules are the best since the original version. I also feel their materials are great and could easily eclipse the GURPS stuff.
:(
I have ordered Secrets and won't recall the order (in fairness to the local store, since it was not their fault). But what the heck do I do with it! Print the missing parts and stick the pages in! I wish that I could think of a remedy that would not be a financial burden to Mongoose.
:P
The only solution I can imagine is for Mongoose to print corrected versions and sell them at printing cost to anyone who mails them a bad copy. I'd eat the postage to get it there if they'd eat the postage to send my corrected copy.

Does anybody know if the pdf compilation version released on Drivethru RPG has the same problem?

If so, it should be easy enough to fix the PDF edition at least.

I believe in the past Mongoose have replaced faulty hard copies for free. I would hope the same will happen in this case.

Yes, I would be surprised if this isn't the remedy offered by Mongoose, they've done it in the past. It's just going to take some time to get there.

The sad thing is that this stuff just keeps happening. Mongoose has a bad rep for quality control and can't seem to turn it around. I made the decision years ago to not buy Mongoose books until I've read feedback from others because I didn't want to go through the hassle of returning a messed-up product.
