Second Ed. Narn, Keep buying Skirmish Lv ships?

so, who's got the new fleet books?

what i really need to know is have they improved any of the Raid+ level ships?

nobody loves a Bat Squad but untill we get some decent options at Raid level i think it's going to be difficult to compete without all the Ka'Toc, Ka'tan, Thentus, ect.

so any love?

Var'nic and G'Karith?

interesting!

Var'nic was a poor battle level, but i hope they have improved the G'Karith if it's going up a level??

looks like i could be painting the Var'Nic next though! :D

The Raid ships are immeasurably improved. The Ka'Tan as you knew it, however, is long since gone. Of course, you can go to its stablemate, the Ka'Toc, which has its own list of strong adherents, or the far-too-long-overlooked Thentus. This is also where the Rongoth and the Rothan ended up, though I'm far from sold on either one of them.

@CZuschlag
OK, im not able to understand all of text your wrote (english and scool is over 20 Years ago for me)

Now a Narn-player use skirmish ships (1st edition) and ONLY skirmish level ships.

What Ships will a Narn-Player use in 2nd Edition?

Ka´Tan is gone, use Ka´Toc? What is "immeasurably improved" exactly?

I like the G´Quans, cool looking ships! I WANT to use them in 1st Edition, but the "bad squad" is the one and only way for a Narn Player to win games.

The G'Quaun is OK - I don't think it is as good as the Omega, Primus, Liati etc - partly due to its short range secondary batteries, but Hey I am not a Narn player what do i know! :)

Seems that a whole load of ships have changed in the Narn fleet, the T'Loth, T'rann, Rothan, Rongoth, G'karith and Var'Nic. I am really intruiged to see the changes as it seems a whole chunk of the fleet has changed. Is the Rothan/Rongoth still a tough cookie to break or is it less armoured now?

hmmm, well the rongoth/rothan has dropped to skirmish level, and its damage went with it, now only 24, but good for a skirmish ship, i think the way most have gone down it will make for a lot of different changes the way you make up a narn fleet now

The T'loth is now a much more viable choice with damage and crew scores that would make a war ship jealous and no more boresight.

Thats good news about eth T'Loth, I am really looking forward to getting a look at the new narn Fleet and see all the changes to it. What's the T'Rakk like now??

Like half a T'Loth :p

Seriously, it's practically the same in style with Damage/Crew to match a Raid PL ship, decent speed and manoeuvrability and guns that at least won't make you cry (i.e. they're not great but they are good enough to make the ship a decent choice as a tough ship).

i've heard nothing to make me really happy about sticking with the Narn yet.

all the ships sound really average, a bunch of effective Skirmish level ships carried our fleet before but now it looks like we have to make up a fleet out of middle of the road ships, not easy! losing the Ka'Tann sounds like a big blow to me, i need to hear about an fleet option to make up for this loss or i'm for buying a new fleet!

i hope i'm missing out on something really special here. :(

Most fleets have an option that sticks out, and for my Narn fleet it was always the G'Quan, now losing e'mines to a one shot roll and hope, and losing the variants means they will have to come up with a new trick. But I never beleived the Ka'Tan was the be all and end all of any Narn fleet.

Sounds to me like nothing is sticking out because nothing is as unbelievably beardy-broken as the Ka'Tan was...

take out anything "beardy" as you call it and you end up with an extremely boring fleet. i bought into Narn because i like the look of the ships. after a few games it was becoming obvious that just using the ships i liked to see on the table (two G'quan and a T'loth in a 5 point raid for example) wasn't very competative for me or my opponent. i would think that anyone who plays Narn would agree that the Fleet needs initiative sinks or face being a sitting duck. these days i like to throw in a few Ka'tann/Ka'toc with the odd Thentus, Sho'Kar and G'Karith and i can still use the ships i like (G'Quan, T'Loth ect.) and give my opponent a competive game. i do like to think that the folk i play against wouldn't just accuse me of being "beardy" the minute i put a couple of Ka'tann or Ka'toc down on the table though.

You don't need anything new, mostly because you've already gotten it. Consider this:

Typically, Narn have few problems ridding the world of enemy fighters; G'Karith do this well. Then, if unopposed, you'll be able to use your Frazi as short-term Interceptor systems while escorting the main vessels.

That's a HUGE deal.

And, given the I consider the new Emine system a huge upgrade, I don't really worry too much about the Narn. Heck, you still have the Ka'Toc, and that was only overlooked because of the (more) overgunned Ka'Tan.

Really, are we reading the same posts? The Dag'Kar seems like it rocks now - beams no longer rip them to shreds and e-mines actually hurt now (reloads too).

Narn players might actually use a Var'Nic for the first time ever.

The T'Loth sounds much better than before - no boresight alone makes this ship tons better.

The T'Rann actually seems like a worthwhile choice too. (A lot more fighters and the abilitiy to launch some in a useful timeframe). Woot, a real carrier finally!

I am a little scared of what they could possibly have done to the G'Karith to make it worthy of a raid choice but I will wait and see (anyone willing to speak on this one?).

As for the Bat Squad - it sounds like the Ka'Toc is the same and apparently the Ka'Tan lost one of its silly second boresight lasers in favor of an E-mine making it a much more flexible ship.

The horrid Rongoth/Rothan pair apparently downgraded to skirmish (and I am not sad to see them go as they are both ugly AND their momma dresses them funny.)

The G'Quan actually has more beam (although how much more hasn't been said). If it has at least 5D I will be very happy even if it is still boresight. Apparently its stablemates the G'Quonth and the G'Tal are allegedly worthwhile now as well (although precisely how has not been described). No news if the G'Lan has changed at all (but I suspect it hasn't).

I am hoping the G'Karith and the Thentus (both basically escort vessels) actually gain the anti-fighter trait so the Narn can use something besides E-mines to deal with fighters. (In the old AoG game the G'Karith basically was a small anti-fighter cruiser.)

On the subject of fighters, the Gorith seems as pointless as ever, but that is ok because Frazis are competent assault fighters and as plentiful as ever. I had hoped the Tarza torpedo fighter and that cool-looking fighter-bomber that AoG released for the Narn right before it folded would make an appearance, but you can't have everything. :D

Honestly, the e-mine fix, a down'sizing of the Var'Nic, and any increase to the beams for the G'Quan alone are almost worth the price of admission for the Narn. Add that to the fact that the cheezy Centauri beam-team has largely been ret-conned out of existance and I am positively delighted.
