SCOUTS ARRIVES !!!

Ok, Mongoose Traveller does not have a force choke option. Now it does have Microkinesis which could perhaps be used for this. But the point was it doesn't directly have such an option.

You could always use it on that flap in your throat (epiglottis?) that keeps food from going into your lungs. (Suffocation from choking on food is usually caused by the food wedging down that flap so you can't get air into the lungs.)

Of course, if you can target the valve in the heart, even less pressure would be needed to seriously mess up someone.

If you want that kind of possible game breaking abuse allowed, there are ways to moderate it. Do you require them to have a sensory link (visual, touch, etc) with what they are trying to target? If so, they are going to need to use some kind of Clairvoyance to find their target, since this is inside a body. Second, better start making medic rolls since the guts of a living creature are a tricky and messy place to find something in even when using the psychic equivalent of an endoscope... After all, clairvoyance isn't x-ray vision, so no convenient 'visible human' effects here.

I know those limitations won't stop the truly obsessed with 'perfect assassinations', but there is one more way to chill them out on the idea. Let them know that doing or talking about that kind of stuff is stepping on the toes of some real assassins, and they don't give warnings twice, if at all...

I was just looking at the equipment lists for Scout, and are those tricorders listed there? *awe*

I mean, sure, they go by names like "handpac" and "manpac" units, but a rose by any other name ...

And smart kitchens. :) I like.

I have to get this book.

My online games shop has listed it as available, but has not yet sent me
an e-mail that it is in the mail to me.
I will have to sue the owner for neglect and mental cruelty if Scout is not
here on Tuesday.

I can see players putting a rush on to chargen Scout characters, just so those characters can get their hands on those wonderful toys. And my word, those toys are marvellous indeed. :)

I am really tempted to drive the 500 km to my online game shop, break
into it and take a copy of Scout, but I think the police would not allow me
to read the book in my cell ... :?

Just picked up my copy from the FLGS, and WOW do I like it. I can't wait to get the chance to really dig in to the content.

My only complaint so far is that they use the heck out of the Surveyor ship, going so far as to detain Surveyor Tender ships, but they do not give you ANY specs on the Surveyor itself. I assume this is in Hgh Guard or something? I can (almost) understand not wanting to reproduce the same information in two book, but the Surveyor is mentioned as being almost exclusively used by the Scout service. Why is it not IN the scout book then? Sigh.

This isn't a good solution, but if the HG preview is still up, I believe it covers the surveyor.

But yes, that's an oopsie.

Yep, sure enough! Thank you, that solves my problem nicely.

Picked up a copy at Mongoose's Corporation Day yesterday, haven't had time to look at it yhet, but I taunt you all with my possession of a copy

"Manpac" - for some reason I just can't get over the feeling that this is something worn or carried by a Metrosexual :?

Why do I equate Metrosexual with Navy?

now I am getting real antsy. The online retailer I pre-ordered it thru still does not show it available. They finally got Beltstrike last week. I hope I don't have to wait much longer for it.

sitting here sipping Ryans Irish cream with the dogs sleeping around me re-reading Elizabeth Moon's Victory Conditions

I wouldn't put your Scout characters' chances of lasting long in an alien tundra environment if he was only dressed like Wash.

No shirts, no brew. They are IMPLIED but not explicitly stated.
