SCOUTS ARRIVES !!!

Ah, well in that case why don't you just telekinetically do the gentleman's tie up for him. It's the effect that counts

No spoilers, but ...

@Loz: You are an incorrigible namedropper. I mean, the APD on p.48. That optional package for Cr. 8000. I read it, and found myself thinking of a certain android and yelling "Noooo!" at the top of my lungs.

I guess I won't be going to be invited to attend any more of my friends' weddings, but that's not the point.

(Though that whole APD thing reminds me somewhat of the John Shirley "Jeeves & Wooster in space" parody where all the character had to do was say "I say, bit of a rum do, what?" and the APD would haul him out of harm's way with a quick and timely intervention ...)

@ all lovers of vessels and deckplans: you get them aplenty. They're not all wedge shaped. Some of them are distinctly not wedge shaped at all, and one is actually a mobile station designed to be hauled to a system, dumped there and left to do its thing, whether surveying a system or enforcing interdiction upon it.

@ Scout fans: there is a section on the various survey and First Contact protocols, a bit on the IISS and how it enforces its rule that you never leave the Scouts, and a solid look at the practical aspects of survival that goes way beyond the simple remit of the Survival skill from the core book.

p. 90. "Uncontrolled Native Bilogical Activity Within The Ship Or Crew?" I hope they clean up the mess afterwards. They'd better have spare uniforms for afterwards.

But "amorphously squamous?" I suppose it goes with the NPC with the Innsmouth Look ...

I recommend Book 3 to the house. Entertaining and informative, I'd be happy to use the rules from this book for an adventure along the lines of "Across the Bright Face" or "Marooned." Not to mention that it offers a lot of wonderful "Why didn't I think of that?" options for players of scouts, as well as for Referees.

I have a thing for drones. Especially THAT one.

For some reason, in my imagination somehow the drone has Roddy McDowell's voice, and it does this thing with retracting its head into its body ...

But then, this is the imagination of the chap who famously sought to hack into the voice box of my baby niece's Tickle Me Elmo and have it recite lines from Dante's Inferno in the original Italian, in a basso profundo voice ...

I find YOUR lack of faith even more disturbing...

[squeezes thumb and forfinger together]...okay, psionic throat crush for two....anyone else ?

Too bad Traveller doesn't have one. Paralysis applied to the neck would be closest but doesn't prevent breathing.

Try paralysis to the lungs. That will work!! Or you can crush the neck with telekinesis!

Lungs isn't one of the areas offered for paralysis.

The drone I had in mind comes equipped with knife missiles that would eviscerate VINCENT in a heartbeat...

Well, someone had to ... :D

Actually, the more I study this book, the more I'm getting out of it. That whole Survival chapter was pure gold. I can see a whole bunch of Bush Tucker Man / Steve Irwin / Ray Mears / Bear Grylls type characters, all coming out of that chapter alone.

Great. Normally I'm dreaming about women who resemble Victoria Rowell or Gina Torres. Tonight, I'm going to be dreaming of blokes wearing khakis and shorts and pith helmets.

Great.

Very inefficient, too. Thinking about this, one could easily model the Force choke for traveller psionics by using TK to applying pressure on the C1&2 vertibrae, such that the nerves controlling the diaphragm are blocked - and yes, simple pressure can block nerve function doesn't take much, force either, if accurately placed.

Judicious application of a little TK to the nerves in the region of the trapezoid muscle, at Personal range, could induce pain, possible paralysis and unconsciousness.

You wouldn't have your force choke, but you would have a good model for the Vulcan neck pinch ...

Actually, I was just being ironic. Apologies if it all seemed a little too strange for this forum.

Book 3 is still brilliant, though, and I'm now going to look forward to running a one-shot game with a Scout theme this weekend.

peanuts? Those things went extinct in my subsector, we have to use sulfur roasted gribble grubs. (We tried soybeans, but trust me, the grubs are better.)
