Salvage Question/Clarification/Errata I cannot find

"The rules" for salvage (TCRU2022 p 156) states:

Salvage: {blah blah blah} Roll 2D on the Salvage table, applying DM-0 to -6 depending on how damaged the derelict is. If the result is an 8+, then D3 times on the Salvage table.

This doesn't quite make sense, but can be interpreted as:

Roll 2D + DM, and on 8+, roll D3 times on the Salvage Table.
Moreover, with a DM of -4 to -6 there is no chance of salvage, so no rolls on the Salvage Table.

Is there another way or something I'm missing?

Roll 2d +DM. Consult Salvage table.
If the result was an 8+, roll an additional D3 times on the Salvage table.

You always get one result, even if it is a Reticulan Parasite (JTAS 4 - c1980)

That seems fine, and less draconian than how I read it. I will adopt this.

I maintain that the salvage section of the book could use a little editing.

You could rule that taking extra time gives a +1, or allow a character to use mechanics skill as positive modifiers.

May be I am thick but what is the difference between arkathan restatement and the section from the CRB.
I also don't understand the difference between nothing and parasite which is also nothing.
But yea, the fact the savage is mostly empty make sense.
The ship was abandon for a reason that left the ship unexploded seems on the low scale. And you being the first salvages that fous the wreckage also seems low.

He appeared to be missing the part where the first roll is a result on the table as well as determining whether additional rolls are needed. i just clarified that part. And added a face hugger.
