hey all, did you feel the NPC´s in #69 Conan adventure a little overpowered? My players got killed on the first encounter and I would like to hear other impressions.

I haven't played it yet but at first glance it does pose some problems due to the gap between the 1st and the 6th level of PCs. If I'm not mistaken, the first encounter is the Locardo's Shemite riders. Just skip Locardo himself if your group's to weak for him. Besides, notice that the text doesn't read how many riders there are so you can limit their number to 2 if that would do.

thanks! I think the terrible rolls of my PCs had also something to do with their early demise, but I had them spend their Fate points (we always forget about them!) and we´ll see what happens next!

Forget about Fate Points?!?

My expectation is that new characters will burn through them all in the first few sessions in order to survive at 1st/2nd level.

That doesn't take away from your concern that the NPCs are grossly overpowered or the bizarreness that 1st to 6th level is considered a realistic range. But, FPs are key to assisting PCs in being action heroes in a reasonably lethal system.

Speaking of Fate Points...

Do you all set a limit number of Fate Points that the players can keep?

Or are you less generous with them then I am?

Just to compare notes:

* we start all characters in Conan (or other D20 games) at third level, because we have no particular enthusiasm about creating replacement characters every session until one finally takes.

* although the GM never imposed an actual limit on fate points, we the players stopped adding them up beyond a total of 8 or so. I think we'd have probably 12 or so if we did.

Yeah, I cap Fate Points at 5 but I'm fairly generous with them. I treat them more like bennies in Savage Worlds than as something that can only be acquired at the beginning and end of adventures. Generally I'll give FPs out for bringing food and/or beer to the games. The cap also means they get spent fairly regularly. Mostly for rerolls but the players in my game are smart enough to always save one for 'Left for Dead.'
