I wonder if there are any references to cardplaying in the Conan saga...
The earliest mentions of cards in Europe were in the late Middle Ages (last half of 14th c.), IIRC, so it might not be too out-of-place for Hyboria.
You know this could be something else to do in the taverns besides drink, fight and pinch the bums of ale-wenches. I'm just sayin'

uhhh they're from a real-life culture. called... Saami!
Yogah of Yag said:I thought that a non-Nordheimer race would not be inappropriate for players/GMs interested in more adventure ideas in the Frozen North. They are not in the Saga, nor in pastiche, AFAIK. The PC name-suggestions and names of "deities" are real world Saami words, but the belief-system is almost entirely my own creation. A few concepts are loaned from Kalevala or Norse Mythology and Shamanism.
Krushnak said:a couple of game mechanics things stood out for me regarding the saami. one was that they got a stat bonus without any penalty, something all the other races with a bonus have is a stat penalty -2 to int would seem appropriate. the other thing was favoured class, i would think borderer would actually be more appropriate instead of nomad as the nomad class is based around mounted nomads, archery and particuarly the steppes and desert.
also the saami got three free feats when starting out, kinda alot. could have the lasso as a wpn style in borderer and track isnt neccessary as the favoured class would give it anyway(nomad or borderer).
i'll probably include them or something very like them in my game if the group heads to nordheim, also plan on including a vey primitive neanderthalic race to be the 'orcs' or 'trolls' that live in the mountains and on snow devil glacier
If he already has the Track feat, he instead gains the Skill Focus (Survival) feat.

Adventures: Borderers are used in particular by civilised nations attempting to push back their boundaries into wilderness.
p.43
Born into the Herd: Saami nomads devote an enormous amount of time tending reindeer. They are able to select the finest beasts with the greatest measure of heartiness to withstand the bitter cold and produce healthy young. If a nomad makes a successful Handle Animal check (DC 15), he can discern the precise number of Hit Dice and hit points of any reindeer. This extraordinary ability takes 1d6 rounds to perform and the nomad must be within 5 feet of the creature to be assessed.
From 7th level, the nomad can also can also determine the creature’s precise ability scores (Strength, Dexterity and so forth) if he succeeds at the Handle Animal check.
At 13th level, the nomad can determine all the above information as a free action, up to three + Wis modifier times (minimum one) per round, for any reindeer which he can see.

Favored class should be barbarian for the coastal tribes instead of nomad, but overall they are pretty much the same.
