Banded Mongoose
So I am running the 'Banished' adventure later today, and after reading it, there are questions again. Not to put too fine a point on it, but some editing here would have cleared up some of this pretty quickly.
Oh yeah...spoiler alerts for anyone who might be a player and not a GM...you have been warned!
First a contradiction: Captain Gregor Haugen is portrayed as a bald man (page 135) and then described as such: "his golden hair catches every ray of artificial sunlight" (page 138). Clearly these both cannot be true.
Second, another contradiction: Glaumr is described as such: "was born mute" (page 137) and yet he is part of the conversation between the three Jotunn saying "He deserved to die," agrees the small one, though I wish we had not been banished for it." (page 144) Again, either he is mute or he can speak, it cannot be both.
Third: There is the optional encounter "The Herd" where the Shield Maidens can possibly tame some cybernetic horses. (page 142) Statistics should have been provided for these beasts in case the Shield Maidens are successful and then possess the mounts. What are they capable of doing?
Fourth: This is just for my own curiosity really, how big are the Ice Spiders supposed to be? (page 143) There is no mention of this other than the fact that a Jotunn axe can fit in one.
Fifth: There must be a presumption as well as to the route that the Shield Maidens take to get back to the city. On the way out to the cave they run across the workers (page 140), then the farm (page 141), then the trapdoor field (page 141), then the valley of the cybernetic horses (page 142) and on to the cave (page 143). The way back presumes they come across the farm (page 146), then the drilling field (page 148) and then they are back to the city. This sequence is hard to visualize. Would they not have run across the drilling field before the farm on the way out then? A small, even 'hand sketched' map would have been helpful here to place the sites in relation to each other.
Sixth: I also just realized that there are no stats for the Jotunns! In the GM Guide (pages 169-170) there are a number of options: Bloodborn, Chieftain, Heavyblade, Tuskling and Oeska. Which should be used for Herkir, Fleggr and Glaumr? Maybe Herkir (Bloodborn), Fleggr (Heavyblade) and Glaumr (Oeska)? Just spitballing!
Seventh: This lack of stats for important characters seems to be a theme. Captain Gregor Haugen? Presumably use the Lieutenant stats from the GM Guide? (page 161) Mika Baum? A Survivalist perhaps? (page 159 GM Guide) Jens Anderson and Jarod Orlof? Tribesperson maybe? (page 159 GM Guide). These should all have stat blocks and not just large pictures.
The crew is enjoying the game quite a lot and have been chomping at the bit to have another go after their success during 'The Sun' adventure. It will be cool introducing another bit of the setting (the Jotunn) and possibly setting them up with a base of operations (the cave) for the future adventures.
