Hello again to all. Im just posting a preview of my Runequest Ancients RPG, which is basically a game set in historical Greece. At current the rules document weighs in it 55 pages. There are still sections of this rulebook which need to be completed and Im basically looking for a group of guys on the boards here to help out and contribute to this setting. What’s in this Book?
Age of Ancients deals with the ancient world and the heroes in it. This book presents Games Masters and players with all they need in order to create and run adventures set in the World of Ancient Greece.
Age of Ancients contains the following chapters.
1) Age of Bronze
An introduction to the Peloponnese in the archaic and classical ages: covering all of the major nations, cultures, powers and regions in the ancient world at these times.
2) Lost Heroes – Character Creation
Creating a Bronze Age character; full rules and guidance on generating characters for Age of Ancients games, using the Runequest engine.
3) Men of Skill & Courage – Skills
Full rules for utilising and developing skills in the ancient world.
4) Blood of Heroes – Legendary Abilities
Details on acquiring and using legendary abilities in the Age of Ancients.
5) With Sword & Bow – Equipment
Detailing currency, weapons, armour and adventuring gear required for survival in the Bronze Age.
6) Fields of Battle – Combat
Full rules for melee and ranged combat in the Ancient world.
7) Sackers of Cities – Adventuring
Details movement, fatigue, healing and other necessary aspects of adventuring in the Ancient World.
8) Honour & Glory – Improvement & Experience
A whole section dedicated to the improvement and advancement of Age of Ancients characters.
9) Of Ancient Gods – Religion, Cults & the Gods
A look at cults, religions and the various Gods found in the Peloponnese and ancient world.
10) Wrath of the Gods – Magic
A detailed examination of magic, witchcraft and miracles in the ancient world, including rules for allegiances with the Gods, and gaining their favour/disfavour.
11) Omens & Oracles – Prophecy, Divination & Philosophy
Rules for prophecy, divination and philosophy in the ancient world.
12) The Gathering Storm – Roleplaying in Ancient Greece
A section for Games Masters, offering notes and advice on running Age of Ancients campaigns, with details on the Greek world, a timeline of historical events and various plot hooks.
13) A Gathering of Wolves – Creatures of the Ancient Times
An Age of Ancients bestiary and guide to mythical beings of the ancient world.
14) Princes & Peasants – Heroes, Villains and NPC’s
Descriptions and statistics for key players in the ancient world, as well as rules for the various NPC’s characters could encounter during the course of their adventures.
15) Golden Ships & Silver Bows – Seas, Ships & Sailing
A guide to ships and sailing in the ancient world, including a table of sailing times between various ports and a guide to creating your own ship.
16) The Fall of Kings – Introductory Adventure
An introductory adventure for newly created characters.
What is needed besides this Book?
Age of Ancients uses the Runequest game engine but is otherwise self-contained. The Runequest Companion and Runequest Monsters, available from Mongoose Publishing ®, may prove to be of use although they are not essential to getting the most from this book. Upcoming sourcebooks such as Warlords of the Ancients will be available in due course.
