Rules Questions: Aircraft

Rastamann

Mongoose
Yesterday, whilst having a game, we came to the following problems:

In Order of Battle, we found that some planes are classed as Attack Aircraft, but there is no reference as to how exactly they attack (the issue was specifically with the Japanese Vals - do they attack as dive-bombers?)

We also don't know how to resolve dogfights if there are more than one on one. Eg. Imagine 2 Zero Flights vs 1 Seafire flight - how is this resolved? do we each roll a die and the japanese player adds both the dogfight scores of the zeros, or do we execute 2 dogfights, and in this case, aren't the odds against the zeros?

Can someone help, please?

it is irrelevant under the oob rules, only bombs or torpedos
is relevant

you execute 2 dogfights but the seafire is out of ammo after the dogfights
(we use a houserule in which the second flight only adds +1 to the roll)

you should use the later model with dogfight 4 from signs and portents

Ok, thanks for the heads-up. I found the rules for aircraft in SP54 and looked into the bombs/torpedos stuff now.

Cheers

As far as I understand it the two on one example you used would be resolved by rolling for each flight of aircraft. If I remember correctly the seafire would be out of ammo but could continue to defend itself but could not shoot down any other aircraft until it is rearmed. as far as attack aircraft it would depend on what type of ammo they are using. only dive bombers have to be touching their targets and torp bomers can be up to 3 inches away. I hope this helps.

yeah one of this we don´t care glitches they made. Then with no amunition you can still fight its defense and then it coud happens that after the rule both planes are blocked for eternity because the rule for airplanes says you can´t leave dogfight until the other is shoot down. So they circle for ever

I was thinking that in real life planes can disengage at times, why not come up with a rule for disengaging. I think it would be a great rule.

just disengage when both(all planes) run out of ammo, it works
just fine

i was always wondereing why there is no rule for that circumstance,
acta has a rule for that situation

I've always played it that once both side's ammo is expended the dogfight fizzles out and the aircraft disengage.

And whats a "we don't care glitch" when its at home? :)

There are some Problems with that.
One some Plane where Ammo Waster others where Ammo savers
Two some Pilots where so crazy that they plaid Kamikaze even they where not Japan (There where even Special designed Planes for Ramming in Air and in use. exampel the so called "Rammjäger" used by germans against bombers and Fighters.
