Hi all
A friend has picked up RQ Vikings and looking to run which should be good - had a read through book and I like alot - lots of great background, images that seem appropriate and plenty of interesting stuff.
I am just making my character up and converting his starting money into thigs he owns - i don't think he would have much actual money. Although some good and evocative items much of the basic equipment is in the basic book - not a major issue but not sure how the money converts - does anyone know what roughly a Norse silver penny is worth compared to a RQ penny - they seem to be different?
So far my 24 yar old hunter character has:
Knife (10sp) – well worn but familiar and sharp bladed hunting knife,
Axe (20sp) – His fathers second war axe – again not new, but carefully maintained and sharpened,
Viking Shield (20sp) – His fathers second shield – “Bedrock”, bears the design of the local Jarl
Hunting Spears (x3) (120sp) – all prized possessions and named “Talon”, “Fang”, “Thuiva” – the latter named after his first love – a girl now well known for the sharpness of her tongue
Hunting Dog – (10sp) – “Deerbane” – a large wolf like but quiet dog, only obedient to Holgolf,
Guard Dog – (5sp) – simply known as “dog”, he is a new purchase to guard the home whilst he is away, he is more obedient to the girl Krista than his true master,
5 hives of bees (5sp) – a vital source of honey for mead,
Slave(female) – (40sp) – Krista – nearly a year ago, Holgolf took part in a raid on another village, [name] – something that happen periodically. Each would raid the other, giving a chance of both villages menfolk proving their worth in battle. As his share of the loot, Holgolf was given a captive girl Krista, something of a mixed blessing as she is both a foreigner and given to claim she has visions. Originally captured on a raid in foreign lands two years ago by raiders from [name] but her curse/gift kept her from being accepted by her captors. Krista is quiet and reflective, which suits Holgolf well who has found that she attends to her chores adequately and cooks well. For her part, she seems relatively content being left on her own for long periods with only the dog and bees for company for few in the village will talk to her.
