(RQ Slaine) Has anyone seen it in stores yet?

It's been about a fortnight and two days since it's publication and I'm still waiting for this  .

Thsi type of DELAy makes me fel so uncool  .

I might just ask for my money back

Here is a short comparison between the two, however please take in account that I do not own all of the d20 Slaine line and have not sat down with each rulebook side by side to make comparisions so I appologize in advance for any errors I may make.

Obvious stuff- Rq has more pages than d20, d20 has some full color pages while RQ is all black and white. Art in RQ is pretty much all or all Clint Langley art, D20 has no Clint Langley art but is a mixture of those artist who came before Langley.

Content- RQ incorporates information from the D20 tribe books, Tir nan og. D20 you need to buy these books seperately. Rq has information in it(several types of Fomorians, etc..) that first appeared in the Books of Invasions. D20 does not as it was released prior to the Books of Invasions. In RQ some/alot of the "fluff" is cut and pasted from the D20 version EX. the Gods and Godesses section looks like the majority of that section was cut and pasted from what was in d20, no expansion in RQ- although a seperate book is planned to expand this. I suspect some was cut and pasted from the tribe books as well, but can't say for certain as I do not own them. D20 has prestige classses Rq jsut has standard professions and you add skills, etc.. to model pretige class- EX there is no War witch prestige class/profession in RQ if you want this you could do it by taking witch profession focussing on some combat skills, whatever spells, skills, etc.. to get what you wanted. Rq can play atlanteans, some one from midgaurd, drone tribes, dwarf or someone from the tribes of the earth goddess(each tribe has different skills, etc.) Not sure if all these options were available in D20. Rq to me has more back ground info to get started (each tribe gets their own chapter) than D20. There is also a starting adventure in RQ can't remember if there was one in D20. Spells in RQ are treated as individual skills-They each have a skill % to cast. Some monsters that were in the D20 book(bears, time monsters etc) are not in RQ Slaine but you are refered to RQ monsters instead. RQ Slaine does have monsters in it that D20 Slaine did not have in it(there are several types of Fomorians, Nuckleve, etc in RQ that were not in d20).

Hope that helps. I'll try to answer any other question if I can.

Forgot to add Rq Slaine magic still draws earth power and Rq Slaine magic is self contained. Lots of spells and states that durations etc, are different than regular/ standard RQ magic in the corebook and companion. So you can't plug in other spells from other RQ sources and drop them into the earth magic system. No reason why you could not introduce Rune magic, Divine magic, black magic, etc into your compaign whole sale as different types of magic other than it would/might not feel like Slaine from the comics. But if that doesn't bother you I don't see why you could not do it.

You, can play a Altlantean. When I sort of think that Slaine has been discribed as such and assuming that the other Danu are as well.

It is said he has Atleanten blood in his veins.

I was wondering if there may be different types of Atlantean's.

Different varieties.

Surely the Rmoahals are worth a mention.

What of the other so called Root races?

I always figured they might be worth some research and development.

Cheers that helps alot.

Four questions:

1. Is the artwork solely Langley in RQ?
2. For the magic are there still incentives to use leylines, blood sacrifices and the like to increase EP?
3. How are warp spasms dealt with?
4. Are any of the Tribes sacred items given stats, such as the Sword of the Moon?

1. Clint Langley and Massimo Ballardinelli are credited. There is a large amount of Langley art in the book. If the book was color it would be one of the most visually stunning rpg's out there.
2.boosts to EP include shrines, temples, being at one of the above during a festival day, different types of battle, different types of sacrafice, wierdstones, and dolmens. I didn't notice leylines. It would not be hard to add this if you wanted it.
3.Warp spasms- warped ones are a race, there is legendary abilities(one being warped that is required for a warped one). There is a section that covers warp spasms in the Earth Power chapter. Basic current EP + die roll+/- any bonus or penaties this gives you what type of warp you have. There is also a roll modified by the type of spasm to see if you can control the spasm.
4.can't recall. I want to say no but I 'll check and get back to you.

1. Almost exclusively. Massimo got a credit as I used his map for the Glamour Land.

2. Yes, very similar to D20, I think I changed a few things around, but not excessively.

3. Mostly Warped Ones get to go all flipped out, although it IS possible for normal humes to have this as well (although it is not as effective for them). Warped Ones do not start with the ability though, after they have had some experience they must purchase the Legendary Ability that allows this at the first opportunity. Slaine did not have the ability to warp from the get go, although he warped at an extremely young age, and as such was exceptional.

4. No. I plan on having a nice little Celtic Magic book at some point that will have a shed load of mythical magic items included,. but as it is unlikely any PC will get their hands on the REALLY cool stuff for quite a while (if ever) these were not a priority for me to include within the main rulebook.

You might want to look at the competition in October's S&P magazine, then...

I was wondering if the famed BLood-Sword from the Slaine 'Lord of Misrule' story might be included here in th rules as well.

Probably not.....

As I have only found a reverance to it in one captions from that story which I don't have quite have all of.

Apparently Slaine is sent time-travelling to the age of Robin Hood. Here he assumes the indentity of Robin Goodfellow and his powrs as well. Granting him ability to sprout wings and fly as he seeks permisson to take the 'Blood-Sword' from Sister Marion who is a reincarnation of Niamh.

I have been slowly collecting these progs. don't have them al though.

Perhaps I could e-mail some ideas I get here from the comic here for future issues of 'Signs and Portents'.

My FGS finally got this in for me and I have started reading it and loving every bit of it. I found the binding was a little weird and the pages seemed a bit wrinkled. Might have been due to moisture maybe upon shipping? But other than that I cannot wait to dig in and get a new Slaine RQ game underway. As much as I enjoyed the D20 version I really think the RQ rule set lends itself better to the Land of the Young.

So is Tooth gonna start running a Slaine RQ? I might be interested in playing again.

That is cool but I am annoyed by it too.

You see a full colour Slaine RPG would be awesome. I would pay quite a bit extra for it. However, limiting it to 20 is going to mean that the cost is going to increase beyond merely the added cost of the book. There is going to be significant cost added purely for its "limited" collector status.

With Mongoose owning its own printer and being able to print what it likes, this seems unnecessarily restrictive. I can't help feel that the limited editions show that Mongoose is more concerned about squeezing as much money as it can from as little effort as possible rather than providing their customers with the genuine opportunity to spend extra money on a better product.

Sigh. Sorry for being so cynical.

By a strange coincindence. I had been doing alittle research( Google Searchs, reading the Wikipedai, etc... .) a few days ago. Things concerning otherthings that were mentioned in the comic and never fully explained clearly. One of things that are based on obscure local myth, science-fiction and the type of stuff that makes me ponder how the Slaine universe really works in fiction/realistic way.

Wondering if I can string the few things I've learnt over last few days into soemthing really clever, interesting and entertaining to read.
