Release of The Spinward Marches Book

My hopes for Traveller are seriously starting to dwindle because Mongoose is not able to make due on their statements.

While I would like for Mongoose to release their books when they initially say they will, and would prefer more accurate (even if less pinpoint) dates, if you're going to bail on a RPG line or company because they miss a release date by 1-2 months you might as well hang up the dice bag. Even Wizards of the Coast misses release dates or goes back on their statements ("No D&D4E before-").

(inserts reminder to Mongoose to update on status of Book 0 in print/pdf and of Traveller SRD ASAP)

My hopes for Traveller are seriously starting to dwindle because Mongoose is not able to make due on their statements. I suggested earlier in this thread that maybe they should announce their releases via quarters instead of months, and under the current circumstances it's beginning to sound like some sound advice.

It's a problem typical of a lot of RPG publishers, even the big ones. Even SJG is notorious for announcing stuff and then having it get pushed back a few months - it's just part of the process. The key is to actually read it as "out between the advertised month and two months later". But this is normal - if a big company like SJG or Mongoose delays a book by more than a couple of months from the initially advertised date then something odd is going on, but at least they'll usually be forthcoming with an explanation.

And if you think this is bad, there are many examples of books by other publishers being delayed by up to or over 12 months (Heck, T5 was originally announced to be released in January 08, and now the date's set at July 15th and even then that will probably still be pushed forward). And in some cases you'll be lucky to even get an acknowledgement that there's a problem.

So there's no need to twist your knickers quite yet ;).

I have a war game I like to play. The publisher was going to come out with a new version that also included other figures in his line more then 10 years ago. We are still waiting.

A month is not that bad IMO.

Luckily for me, the owner of my LGS happens to also play in one of my gaming groups. She has me down for one of each of the new Traveller supplements as they come out.

At least three, I'd imagine.

Seriously, the publishing industry is full of vagaries that can result in a project being a month or two late. I've made a fair amount of money recently from rescuing projects that were nearly finished when the original writer just sort of ground to a halt.

In this industry, announcing a book several months in advance and getting to within 1-2 months of the release date is just the way things tend to pan out. Mongoose are good - they actually release what they say they will rather than talking big then allowing the project to cave in out of apathy, aversion to work or whatnot.

A few weeks' delay is sometimes inevitable. Kudos is due for delivering at all.

Hey Martin, are you going to be at Travellercon/USA in October, so I can get you to sign my copy of Spinward Marshes?

So the Marches book has sold out already? Damn, that's impressive. Whatever they're paying the author, it's not enough.

Oh wait, I know what they're paying, and who to. It was too much, I tell you, too much.

Seriously, Mongoose Spinward Marches is awesome with awesome sauce and a sprinking of crystallised win. I know this because that's what I said about it earlier so it must be true. Even if my cat wasn't impressed with it.

Sold out already though? Wow. I rock. Really.

It's easy to sell out when they only printed 5 copies and your mom bought them all!

Yeah, but getting my mum to buy any of them was quite an achievement.

When you say you've released another book and not even your mum is impressed, you know you suck.

Actually, we figured that out from your cat.....

Does anyone in the USA have it? I haven't checked with my FLGS or online dealers for it?

Does anyone have the table of contents or is it posted anywhere? thanks!

MJD - Is there information on the Aslan "invasion" which was a big topic in BtC?

thanks!

Mike

Last I heard, street date is July 1 so don't bother looking until tomorrow. Got my FLGS to hold me a copy when it comes in.

MJD I saw the Sworld Worlds capital is Gram. But GT Sworld Worlds the capital is Joyeuse. The Traveller Wiki says Gram too

http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Sword_Worlds_Subsector

Was the coup mentioned in the Spinward Marches Campaign?

thanks!

Mike :D

GURPS Traveller is set in or after 1120, 15 years after the classic setting used by MGT and after the 5th Frontier War, which effectively broke the Sword Words apart. So both books are correct, for there period and setting. :P
