Referance cards for second edition

Stonehorse

Mongoose
As both Battlefield Evo and Starship Troopers Evo are getting referance cards, I was wondering if any one knows if Mongoose have plans to do the same for second edition?

Well, we have one or two summaries (such as the order that attacks are made with hit rolls, dodges, interceptors, etc.). It would be good to see them in card - GW have shown them to be useful and highly popular...

A Special Action reference card with summaries of all the benefits and drawbacks would be very useful.

If there isn't one included, you can be sure Burger's Ship Viewer will have one ;)

a crit table on one side of the card would be useful too. although if yuo want to print one out just go to vassal mod and look through its folder for the crit table to print out.

I've made my own. One has the firing rules, and the critical hit tables on one side. On the other side is all the special actions rules. The other card has the special ship traits on one side, and on the other all the special weapon traits. They make life much easier, and speed gameplay up a fair bit.

I've been wondering about making playing card sized stat cards for all the ships. You could just find the cards that represent the ships you are playing with during a game, and leave them on the table edge for referance during the game. I don't know if I should wait until 2e though, I wouldn't want to have to do something like that twice.

Banichi, Chernobyl's ship cards are exactly that if you cut them up and laminate them. Mine are 4 per sheet, right across the width of an A4 page. Take your pick of which format you prefer, or make your own to give people even more choice :)

They also work well in a clear card sleeve you see all the CCG's using.

this is basically what the front and back look like (side by side)

Cards for fighters are basically the same, but since they don't have hull/crew to track, the back is a critical hit chart.

High damage ships (mostly stations) use some larger size blocks to represent bigger damage squares. in this example, the big squares are the same area as 4 squares but represent 10 damage.

there are a couple misprints, but I try to fix them as I get informed. I know I have one outstanding to fix in the drazi fleet right now.

I think a lot of people are hoping that mongoose will make available some kind of pre-printed ship sheet / card for 2nd edition. I don't think they've explicitly stated yes or no to this yet, all we've heard is that the ships will all be in a book separate from the rules.

Cool. Thanks for pointing that out guys :) It has been one of those things that I've meant to do, but been slightly daunted by the number of ships out there. Those cards are very nicely put together.

Yeah, there are a lot... my ship viewer currently has 309 records. But that includes auxillary craft and duplicates (eg. EA ships in multiple eras counted twice).

I was going to do ones for the ships that I have minis for. But over two thirds of the games I play are with counters, and we try all kinds of races and fleet combinations. Althought in the 6 point raid battle my friend and I had last week he only used 1 kind of ship. 108 flights of Delta Vs!!! It was one of those games.

Suprisingly yes. We pick our fleets in secret and suprise each other, (we avoid minbari, they need special handling) I'd pick 1 avioki, 2 xill, 2 warbirds, and 3 triaca frigites. And he used nearly every fighter token in his box set. (he had minbari delta Vs, narn delta Vs, shadow delta Vs). I just put my ships into a box formation like the ww2 bombers used, so every one could cover each other, and didn't move for the whole game. Probably one of the things that saved me is that we use SFOS rules, so fighters fire last. I just kept shooting the flights next to my ships, and tryed to push them back so there wouldn't by that many in 2inch range. I lost most of my skirmish/patrol ships, and the bigger ones were mauled. But through sheer attrition I was still there at the end of the game.

To be honest I was kind of curious to see how this game was going to turn out. The reason he chose delta Vs was that he wanted the most ships that he could possibly get. Something like this game is almost more of an experiment than a proper game, and I must admit I got lucky with the critical roles that I had to take. Yes, I know we are out of date with the rules. But I put of buying armagedion, then found out about 2a, and decided to wait for that.
