Recon Run

Whoops, I messed up.

Go back to the link I referred to at the top of the thread and read the premise carefully (obviously, I didn't.)

This ruling applies psecifically to scenarios that have a duration including the phrase "or until either side has no ships on the table." Then, note that Recon Run (unusally enough) does NOT have this verbiage: "10 turns, or until every defending ship has been scanned."

So, unless I hear otherwise, the Rulesmasters link does NOT apply. So, here, the all-fighter swarm is (probably) legal.

And truly busted.

Why?

Because you can field an all-fighter defending force, too. You can't scan 'em -- they aren't ships. Ships with long-range wide angle guns might be OK; get a few VP for blasting fighters, then skedaddle; but Drazi and the like are beyond hosed.

Sigh. It is what it is. Unless there has been another separate ruling I haven't found yet. And I am, indeed, hoping that there is.

But isn't this just an example of PLs in play? Yeah it sucks to not be able to field a force in low PLs, but these races (Shadows and Vorlons) would domininate at higher levels, no? And your opponent's fleet could potentially get smacked in the process. Isn't this the trade-off? For every low PL rolled, there's the equal chance that a high one is rolled too...assuming you go +3 and your opponent -3.

CZuschlag, are you saying then that the all-fighter swarm is legal from an attacking Vorlon player's POV when it comes to Recon Run?
